Humminbird 798 Vs 898
Crankhead, help me out here please. are you talking about a front end unit for you or your buddy. I'm running a 898c HD at console and 798ci HD SI at bow. IF I had it to do over again. I think I'd go with 798ci HD SI at both stations. The 898 is nice and my first unit. BUT in bright sunlight (we have a lot of it here in Central FLA) the 798 is a much better display, and as Wayne said the digital readouts at the bottom of the screen is a big plus.

Fishing With Live Blue Gill
LM my first larger bass from some very small pondscame on Bluegills, then I discovered Florida Golden Shiners. That was a game changer for me. I stll fish mostly artificials, but when my back & wrist start to ache too much, it's shiner time for me. Or if I'm hunting the bigger bass.

Sea Eagle 285 Pontoon Boat
This is my second ea Eagle. I got one of the first ones, Great boat fr some of thesmall ponds I fish here in central FLA. Don't like the position of the oar locks, Too close to your knees. I understand they fixed this so shouldn't be a problem. It's a great little boat just remember that it desn't like the wind any more than any other inflatable pontoon. It's a good boat , I have no regrets. BTW I push mine with a 30# Minkota trolling motor whenever possible. Believe me when I tell you that a 6 lb LM will give you a ride.

Central Fl Reports

Fishing Forecast Via Weather.com
CB2k9 Forecasts are forecasts, nothing more. Most are based on solar lunar patters. Some try to factor in local weather. I subscribed to "Wather Wild life" for a year awhile back. Did it help my final results? No. Did I fish the peak times? Yes. Do these Forecasts work? Well, if you swing at the ball enough times, you will eventually get a hit.

New Boat And Electronics Suggestion
Groupie... It would help us help you if maybe you gave us a budget to work with. and i you're going to put that kind of money into an SI unit for example, IMO you're asking for trouble going with a 36" beam instead of a 48". Be smart and do it right the first time. Been there done that. I know where of I speak Best of luck in your quest.

Do Trolling Motors Lose Power With Age?
IS it possible that over time you may have picked up some fish line or vegetation inside the hub of your prop? I have to pull my prop about every other trip to clear debris from under it. Sometimes it's line and others it's vegetation.

Senko under a float?
Back2 has it right. put it under a slip bobber wacky rigged. You'll need some wind tho. the wind moving the bobber up and down will impart the motion to the wacky rigged senko. Can be a killer rig at times.

1197 SI range settings?
Got a 898c back in Feb. Works great. The first SD card I put in it was a slower one, maybe a class 2. It worked BUT the menus responded very slowly. Upgraded to an extreme class 10 and all is well. I just tried to get by on the cheap and use a card I already had. Enjoy

The bass spawn
Basslover.. The spawn is not triggered by AIR temps. The spawn is more a function of length of day (hours of daylight) and water temp. Think about it. The shortest day of the year is in December, and the coldest water is usually in Dec or Jan. So as the days lengthen and the water starts to warm (warm is a relative term) the instinct to spawn will start the process. I've read several theories about what happens when adverse conditionts persist. 1.) That the female will spawn her eggs no matter how cold the water is. and 2.) That she will carry the eggs without laying them and absorb them back into her body. I'm not sure which theory is correct or if both or neither is correct. Yes, I think your bass should start to feed up or go into Pre-Spawn mode. BUT they may not be moving up shallow to feed. Down here in FLA, last month we found bass in a pre spawn condition and for over a week we absolutely beat on them in 20 feet of water. Deep diving cranks were the lure du juor or live bait free lined to them. These fish went from 3-8 lbs. This has happened several times in the last month usually with the passing of a cold front. then as the water and weather warmed the fish moved up on the nearest flats to continue feeding and some to start the spawn. Hope this helps. There are some excellent articles and posts here on the subject, you may want to do a search. Tight Lines Nick O

scrounger jig heads
Given the time & place they are killer. I keep them close by always. I call 'em my do nothing bait, just cast & crank. However they will helicopter on the cast & sometimes I have to put a small swivel inline. Nick O

Is front drag better than rear?
Whoa!!! Hold up there Rooster. You might want to specify which reels you have that came that way. I've got several Shimano Symetere's a Sahara & more than a few Okuma bait runners and tho they all came with extra spools none came with extra drag washers. They were all NIB. Just didn't want anybody to get misled.
