Smaller frog for smallmouth?
This. These work really well. But you know what works even better? Any of the Goats. Narrower profile, single EWG. Fish eat it easily. And those little legs kick up lots of noise and a bubble trail!! I'd also throw the Turbo Mag Fatty if you want a topwater worm profile. I've also found the Booyah Toadrunner/Jr. to be great fun to throw. It's a bit like a Plopper and a Frog had a baby.

Free rig
Yea, you said it so much better than I did. It's such a great bait. But I still think it's under the radar, mostly. Its incredibly versatile. Trailer, minnow, fluke, fish it like a Senko, wacky rig it, drop shot, etc The tail had great action, because pintail. But the body had this great rock to it because of the dual density plastics being used. And it's a noticeable wriggle. So secondary movement like that on the stall is money for a Free Rig bait. The Dolive Beaver gets the shout outs for being great on the Free Rig. But the Dolive Stick is right up there and is a great Free Rig bait. It's my go to when I need "fish profile". It gets thrown around...probably only 2nd to my Beaver use.

I use 1/0-2/0 EWGs for plastics that size. So I presume your hook will work just fine...though I've never used them.

Here's what the Dolive Stick looks like. Granted, this is the "Fat" version..but having fishing the regular version a lot, it behaves the same. That shimmy/swim on the weightless drop is money!!

Double frog rig
Same style frog front and back? If not...was there a thought process for the frog in front style vs. back style? Cool rig.

Ribbon Tail Worms
So is this a big fish bait only then? We don't get fish that big here and we'd be positively thrilled with a fish even half that size.... I was thinking a big worm like that would be killer on a Neko!

Free rig
Certain types of baits are standouts on the Free Rig. Those jerkbaits sure didn't look like it. I'd rather use a Dolive Stick. Has that great jerk action but on the drop behaves like a Senko with a great rocking action.

Losing too many wobble/swing head fish
I find this absolutely fascinating. I fished a Jika extensively for SMB, which isn't tremendously different in use when fished like a swing head. And I don't lose fish on the jump. Ever. So I'm genuinely surprised and curious. Is this because I'm using lighter spinning gear with parabolic rods that stay well loaded on the jump? Is it luck? It certainly isn't any sort of special skill on my part, that's for sure. I'm genuinely curious why this is. Is this some advantage due to rig or gear? Or is this just a completely random thing that's happening currently and will even out over time? Any insight?

Bathymetric Map App
Yep, Navionics has much, much better detail. I have the Premium for C-map and it isn't nearly as good.

Fuzzy Baits - I called it!
I have been fishing these awhile (Dice, Cue Bomb, Imo Kamushi, etc) and they work well. So was just a matter of time before they become popular in the US. Same thing with bug baits (mushi). Been fishing these this year.

Megabass Karashi Twitch Bait
Same, really. Fun bait. But expensive. Fished it today. Worth trying at least once if you can stomach the cost. Or try the knockoffs.

Loving the Grass Piece
I have been asked, so I'll point out that while the clone is "good" the Grass Piece is "great". And I think given the price difference, this isn't shocking. . The most noticeable performance difference was you couldn't fish it as fast as the Grass Piece. That being said, if you can't get your hands on a Grass Piece, the clone is an entry level option without spending a lot. And unlike the real thing, you can actually get them easily and in any color you want. But this should be viewed as an alternative rather than a replacement for a Grass Piece.

VMC Crossover Ring sizing
This has happened to me too. Fish absolutely can pull it out. They grab a good mouthful of the tail and take off. You feel the tug and presume a fish is on. So you put some pressure on the rod to fight the fish and the line goes limp. Crossover ring comes back intact, no fish. Has happened to me several times with the 5mm. I have switched to the 4mm. Tighter fit. Seems to be working better. Though I do wonder if this will split the worm easier. I'm also using plain old silicone tubing in 4mm and I think it works just as well. At least for Neko fishing.

Bathymetric Map App
Oh, I don't use the bottom mapping for navigation purposes. Just for fishing purposes. And the Omnia app has vegetation as does another one..though the name escapes me now.

Loving the Grass Piece
They are robustly made and fish well. Of the several I've ordered, I love the gold one! There's a few members here who have fished them.

When is a popper the BEST choice?
Yep, same here. Too many weeds here for a traditional popper. Open water. Although you could certainly throw a popping frog in the cabbage. Lots of good ones on the market. However, I don't fish a frog popper so others here might be much better informed on the topic.

Bathymetric Map App
Yes, I've previously used Navionics on a tablet mounted on the boat and the bottom mapping is very good as is the dock-to-dock navigation. It's my sole piece of electronics on the boat. But the pricing has got a bit excessive here. So I was looking for alternatives. There are many navigation apps, so that part of the equation is easy. But bottom mapping for finding structure and other data for fishing is an important consideration...and that's been the harder part. I'm currently testing C-Map and it's pretty good...and the pricing is better. Was just wondering if there were any others I need to consider.

Bathymetric Map App
I amended my reply for what I'm looking for, specifically. I'm looking for a high quality app..regardless of how the contour were mapped.
