Loving the Grass Piece

Featured Replies

Still new to the grass piece, but it is effective at Guntersville. Fished a small “finger” this am (north sauty refuge). Submerged grass is about 1-2’ under surface level. Eel grass out the wazoo, hydrilla as thick as madusa’s hair. The grass piece just swims right through it like it’s nobody’s business. Caught one this am. Really first time fishing it, however, i can say it will be killer at Guntersville.

Wow! That fish choked it! It must've really wanted it because the hook is way back there. Looks like a cool lure. Does the blade sit horizontally?

Not horizontally, but at an angle.

So a spinnerbait/bladed jig hybrid???

^^^^ not sure why it says "bladed jig", not what I posted. Stupid.

Yeah, it kinda is a hybrid between the two.

I’m jealous. Every time I look they’re out of stock!

I was gonna be that guy and have my son buy all 7 on the peg, but I only bought 4. I want some in 1/2oz too…

The Grass Piece has become a staple in my arsenal for the CA Delta. It's full of weeds and witches hair and it comes through beautifully. Little bit of wind? Rock bank? Fish on!

A subtle wagging trailer is killer on a Grass Piece.

That said, what’s yalls trailer of choice on the grass piece? I had a spunk Shad on today. I’m not sold on that trailer for the grass piece. It’s about all I had on hand today…

Have you used these? Are they any good? Sure is much cheaper and easier to get.

They are robustly made and fish well.  Of the several I've ordered, I love the gold one!

There's a few members here who have fished them.

For a trailer try a swim senko or DRT Cramp Shad

Where are you all finding the grass piece in stock?

  • Author

I got mine from Japan. My son went in June.

I have been asked, so I'll point out that while the clone is "good" the Grass Piece is "great".  And I think given the price difference, this isn't shocking. .

The most noticeable performance difference was you couldn't fish it as fast as the Grass Piece.

That being said, if you can't get your hands on a Grass Piece, the clone is an entry level option without spending a lot. And unlike the real thing, you can actually get them easily and in any color you want.

But this should be viewed as an alternative rather than a replacement for a Grass Piece.

PSA - Thorne bros tackle has some 3/8 oz grass pieces in stock. $28/ea. Expensive, but if I didn’t have the same exact colors they were selling, I’d have probably bought some. Had 5/8 oz flex

yesterday for $30 and were all sold out this morning.

the clone works as well?

I have one grass piece left and I am almost too scared to throw it.  I will be in Japan November and I will peel a display peg empty.  if I can.

for a trailer, I have ONLY used the G-Ratt thin swim.  I like em skinny, to come thru the junk.  in Mexico it was stupid successful, but I lost 2 out of 3 and I got real skittish nervous-like.

No idea. Will probably toss one in the cart to see though.

woolleyfooley E-Bay is loaded with them.
