Retrieving Stuck/Hung Up Lures and Baits
I pop the line and that works a good bit of the time. if not, I tried pulling from different directions, and popping from different directions. Then I’ll just break off.

I appreciate the advice, I know about the banana thing and I don’t subscribe to it. Ott Defoe eats a banana every day in his boat and he doesn’t have any problem tearing them up.

Determining the crankbait bite.
Let’s say, I think that they’re biting crankbaits, or at least I want them to bite crankbaits… How many varieties of crank baits would be reasonable to try? Today I fished Fat free guppy, in 3 colors, fat free fingerling, kvd 1.5, bandit 100, wiggle wart, 2 traps, and a kvd 1.0. I lost them all at the river. Pretty much all my crankbaits. I do have more traps and 2 more 1/4oz squarebills. I caught fish on the kvd 1.5 and fat free guppies. The others didn’t produce anything. It got me to thinking, in the past I have tried only 1-2 crankbaits and pretty much decided the bite was on or off for crankbaits. But perhaps I need to try a larger variety of types and a few different color families before saying it’s a no crankbait day. What is everyone’s progression on deciding what, if any, crankbaits are the days producers?

I had thought about this some. Not a problem for me. I prefer power fishing anyways. I will slow down if I have no choice.

Senko as a jerkbait?
He says he designed it that way here. Not that it is the best way to fish it though. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1B7WdZ5ZV6/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Planning my first boat trip with a friend.
It’s $40 about the right amount to offer? When it comes to breakfast, or lunch, is that something like where I just bring some sandwiches, or do I offer to go to a restaurant? Heck, I ain’t got enough tackle to fill a whole bag. I might if you include all the soft plastics, but there’s a bunch that I don’t know how to use yet.

Senko as a jerkbait?
Interesting, thanks. I really haven’t fished it that much. Yesterday I was flipping some bushes from shore, and I decided to twitch it back. I didn’t get any hits, but I could certainly see how it would have triggered a bass in the area.

Senko as a jerkbait?
Gary Yamamoto designed the Senko with the idea that it could be used as a soft jerkbait. I haven’t done it a whole bunch, because I normally fish a fluke. It sure does look good in the water though. Anybody else do this?

Planning my first boat trip with a friend.
I’m thinking about the future, when I may have the chance to go on a bass boat with a friend. I haven’t been invited yet, but I want to be ready in case the invitation happens without much prep time. Right now I’m thinking to take a duffel bag which will have some extra lures in 3700 size boxes, soft plastics, water, and snacks. Rain gear in the future when I have it. I figure not knowing the condition of storage on his boat, I may need to remove the stuff from my bag and stuff the bag in a small spot. So, I figure it’s best not to take a hard tacklebox or a milk crate. I’ll probably also will have a cooler, a soft cooler. This in addition to my current backpack and my rods. Am I missing anything? Should I consider something else, is there anything that I haven’t thought of?

A Tale of Three Habitats
Thanks for sharing your catch today. I don’t keep count of how many I catch. I fish nearly daily though. I will guess 500-1000 depending. I often catch 10-15, but I often catch only 1-2. All in 2 hour blocks normally. Think I got 5 yesterday, all small ones though.

Advice on choosing 3-5 5" Wacky worm colors
When GY invented the Senko, he had in mind a slugo or fluke type bait. So if you were to add a dual tone minnow pattern, you could work it in that way and have a much different presentation.

How To Name Members
Mine is one of my only memories of my dad. He died when I was 5. I remember him taking me to a pond to fish, and decided to cut some donuts in the field next to it when we were leaving. The passenger side door on his old work van swung open and I was trying to pull it closed as he swung around. He hollered “Hold on Bazoo!”

Brush hogs as trailers for jigs, spinner baits and chatterbaits, opinions please
I use them for jigs and chatterbaits. They work well. For me it’s a more subtle presentation than a craw trailer. I use the baby brush hog on 1/4oz chatterbaits and on compact jigs. Mostly swimming the jigs around weed lines. The little tails give some movement, and the flappers give it bulk.

Thanks. Locked in would be a good way to word it. I have had a hard time being locking in whenever I have the aforementioned distractions, which is why I’m working on it.

Ike foundation tournament recap
I am trying to build that mindset in my bank fishing. For me it isn’t “fun” rather it’s work. Bit to say I am not having fun, but I am serious fishing. I am learning to concentrate while fishing with my kids, while the people around me blare music, having interactions with others, and trying to stay hydrated and fed. Basically I’m learning to deal with pressure the best I can with the conditions I have to work with.

Thinking about reels that do not have centrifugal brakes.
I appreciate the discussion and suggestions. I throw 1/4oz lures a lot, but I might jump up to a 1/2oz trap at any time. I ain’t looking to modify a reel for super light lures, just trying to see what’s out there in a little better quality than the Daiwa CR80 and Abu Black Max I currently use. I haven’t ever really considered the Tatula but I guess I am now.

Sorry you didn’t do as well as expected, but thank you for sharing your experience. I haven’t fished any tournaments yet but I think I’d like to. It was an interesting read.

Thinking about reels that do not have centrifugal brakes.
Interesting replies. Thanks all. I really like my bass pro reels, for the things they are suited towards. I’m using Abu Black Max and Daiwa CR80 reels for my lighter weight stuff, since neither have centrifugal brakes.. I want a higher end option for that. But not super high end. Maybe $150-$200.

80 bass
Thanks for sharing your great day. I’ve never gotten close to 100, but not had the opportunity yet either. I got 10 today in 2.5 hours. Not sure what they really wanted, but I force fed them a bladed jig and then a swim jig as that’s what I wanted to learn.

Plano Stow All bag?

Hair jigs?
I know nothing about hair jigs, other than those little ones you use for crappie. It appears people use hair jigs for bass? So probably 1/4oz? Is there a preferred brand? I see these and they are dirt cheap. Good entry point? https://www.basspro.com/p/kalins-hand-tied-marabou-jig

The names used to describe lures are nuts.
I always thought Fat Free Shad was a funny name. Bill Dance told the story once of how it came to be. He said when he designed it, everybody was on a fat free craze, so he just named the crankbait the Fat Free Shad.
