  1. Wrapping it around the fish lip gripper handle is a good idea, but i wonder if braid isn't gonna slice through that, especially if i am trying to pull a snag with a 50 pound line. And y'all think its safe to pull a snag by completely locking the drag, and pull on the rod when using small diameter line in the 8-10lb diameter, or that too isn't a good idea for the gear set?
  2. That's what i've been doing for a few years now, but it damages the line, especially smaller diameter braid.
  3. So what line diameter would you say is safe to simply crank the drag and pull on the rod? I assume doing this with a 10lb braid won't affect the gear set?
  4. I used to always tighten my drag, and pull the snag out by simply pulling on the rod. Did this with line up to 50lb. Then i completely stopped because i heard that it'll make your gear set "buzzy" and it'll lose its smoothness, so i rolled the line on whatever, and pulled the snag that way. The thing is, if you do it that way, with thiner diameters (15lb and under), it frays the braid, and weakens your line.
  5. If you retreive it fast, it flies out of the water, and is barely touching it. The action reminds me of when you catch some salad on your walking bait, you begin retreiving it fast to remove it, and that's the action of this bait on a faster retreive speed. I don't know how it is with the larger sizes they offer, but the 3.5" is incredibly poorly thought out.
  6. I am blown away by how much of a dumpster fire this bait is. The bait in question is the Freedom Tackle Mischief Minnow in the 3.5" size. I don't know what they were thinking when making it, but when you take a jerkbait, entangle it on your line, and retreive it on the surface, it has a better action than this Mischief Minnow. When you retrieve it slowly, the bait rolls on itself, there's barely any vibration/flash from the blade, and it looks like a mess. If you pop it on the surface, the bait barrel rolls on itself like its entangled on your line. No joke, the absolute worst hardbait i've purchased since i got into fishing in 99-2000. Dollar store baits have better action, and Freedom Tackle is charging $15 canadian dollars for this. What's the worst bait you've tried in years?
  7. If you want cheap, you buy used from Daiwa, Shimano. If you want even cheaper, buy used Abu since they don't retain their value at all. Personally, i would never waste my time on basement assembled noname reels. But that's just me.
  8. On the Daiwa side its more the spool that makes the difference and not the reel. So you put the SLP1010 spool inside the 21 Zillion, and it will bomb across the lake. Put the same spool on the Steez TW, and the performance will be identical. The SLP1010, Type R and Type R+ spool, the RCS1016, the Type R spool from the Ringa SSS are all super long casting spools.
  9. Its a bass reel, they don't need to be as large as a conquest either. And the weight doesn't need to be as tiny, but i do want the the size, and unless i hear undeniable proof from daiwa/shimano, i will never believe that they aren't making a smaller version because it might ruin their reputation. Shimano isn't making a smaller one because it'll make their current version completely irrelevant, and what they want is to have the same frame for their standard conquest reels and their bfs one, this way the manufacturing is much less expensive. And when it comes to Daiwa, its even worse. The Millionaire CT and the Ryoga1016 are absolutely massive compared to other round reels. How is it that they have tiny 28mm spools, but no round reels to take advantage of those? Lots of people in Japan prefer round reels for stream fishing, and Daiwa not developing a new tiny frame to use their 28mm spools is a waste. Instead, they made the IMZ, a reel nobody owns nor wants to waste their time recharging the batteries after every day on the water. Their zillion design is great and the new steez frame is amazing, but they're ignoring round reels, and that's not cool.
  10. Perfectly aware, and i am not implying anywhere that i am interested in some Chinese brand. What i do want is a Shimano/Daiwa (especially daiwa since they'v been slacking on the round reels department) that is as small as that Chinese dc reel. If a brand with zero manufacturing experience can do it, of course the big two can do it as well. Give it a stock carbon handle with cork knobs like the alphas air stream custom, and i am buying one day one.
  11. Suxfix 832 in their yellow color is great.
  12. I too would take it over Lews, but its not like Lews is any good to begin with. My Shimdaiwa elitism doesn't allow any other brands to get close to me.
  13. Good to hear, and i was checking those Black Label rods as well.
  14. How is the tip heaviness? Would need it to do well with jerkbaits.
  15. Anyone has one of their 5pc models? Was thinking of grabbing their M or the MH to try out.
  16. Its been a while since Megabass hasn't tuned a Daiwa reel, and released it under their name. The last one being based off of a Tatula was bleh. Now that Megabass is much bigger than what they were, isn't it time for them to come back in the reel market? They used to work on Daiwa reels, and they were great, but wouldn't it be cool to see them back in the reel market, but this time around, maybe, as the manufacturers? There is no shot a freshly redesigned Monoblock that is comfier to palm than a conquest 100 wouldn't sell out. We need new cool looking reels cuz those generic silver, or black reels from Daiwa and Shimano got old years ago.
  17. I too am a big fan of the Steez CT frame, but don't have any reels with it because they've never released a reel that uses this frame and supports 34mm spools. If they did this, i'd grab it day one. The new Pixy for the USDM market that just came out, and is essentially just an alphas tw, should have been based on the steez ct frame. Imagine a pixy on this frame, using 31mm spools so you could swap them around, and they made some limited edition ones with actual color that isn't the boring silver or black.
  18. Was using my pixy with px68 finnese special spool for american shad all day today. cought 59 shad, and was literally outcasting anyone from the bank by meters, and there was at least 30 people. This spool with 8-10lb braid and small aerodynamic lures is insane. I don't know why its not very popular, even back in the day when they were still in production.
  19. How old are we talking? Reels from the early 2000's like the alphas, pixy, tdz, etc, they're as good as what's on sale from daiwa and shimano, and if you tune them with additional bearings, carbontex, handles, spools and so on, i would take them over almost everything that's still in production. I don't have anything from the 90's and earlier, tho, and their looks are a bit ancient to me.
  20. The PX68 Finesse Special is awesome.
  21. I love them, but at the same time i feel like none of the ones that are currently sold are good enough. I want something tiny like the Conquest DC 50 and the Cardiff DC. All the current ones are too big. The palming side plate might be small on the new Conquest reels, but the reel as a whole isn't. Looking at that Loongze chinese dc reel, i don't get how is china made a smaller dc reel than japan, and when you look at daiwa offerings, they look like dinosaurs in comparison.
  22. Saw this on youtube, and They do seem to put a lot of effort. Now, companies that design their stuff in Japan, but make em in Vietnam like Megabass does, i don't think they should be charging as much money as they do for that reason alone, but the likes of DUO, still making their stuff in Japan, their price is worth it.
  23. I use white braid most of the time, with about a 1m long fluoro leader. For veggies where you i am going straight braid, then standard green stuff does fine.
