  1. Bought 2 Legit Design rods, but by the time they're delivered, good chance it'll be snowing. This sucks.
  2. Never use fedex, dhl or ups. You get charged much more because of brokage fees. Standard tracked shipping or EMS is the only way to order from Japan.
  3. I agree, but when you get your first dc reel, and hear the whine, its cool for the first season you're using the reel. Then the coolness is over. Not the same. You need to charge that thing, and i don't think any sane person wants to waste their time doing that.
  4. I am sensing some resistance here. Its as if those who primarily use shimano reels, don't want to see DC reels from daiwa, even when the patent is expired. But if you believe that Daiwa ain't gonna be taking advantage of this, that's living in a delusional world.
  5. See? And this is what you're not taking into consideration. Not everyone is fishing from the boat, ESPECIALLY IN JAPAN. Casting distance is very important when you're a bank fisherman. As someone who primarily fishes from the bank, i have sold all my SV spools (SV Boost included), because they cannot compete with my other spools, even spools released in the early 2000s.
  6. That i know how a huge chunk of stock and cutom spools perform inside a daiwa, specially those built on the 34mm platform. You tell me that i saw the "daiwa reels are overbraked" on youtube, and are just parroting it, when in reality, i have tested more spools to know what's up than all your youtubers. To say that an SV spool casts as far as something like the SLP1010 spool, RC1016 spools, those mag-v type r, type r+ spools from the og steez and tdz, is simply not having any experience with what Daiwa has offered over the decades.
  7. In my opinion, its not one of the best, it is the best when the price is taken into consideration. But i am not talking about myself here. The broader community sees Daiwa reels being much more overbraked than Shimano offerings, and Daiwa having DC options will completely nulify this. Or having used well over 40 difference spools for the 34mm platform alone. Well that's simply false. Plenty of people get an slx dc instead of the superior/higher end curado. The marketing of the "omg we have a computer chip inside our reels" works wonders, especially with the massive indirect marketing that's happening on youtube and reddit alone.
  8. I'd bet money that its not a matter of if, but when. I am 100% positive they have already been working on it for most likely over a year. Many are crying about Daiwa being overbraked because of SV spools. What is a DC reel? Far from being overbraked. So if/when they have their dc reels, they will cover everything, from high control, best for skipping and long range bombs. They market it for long casting distances, just like what Shimano has been doing for over 20 years. Pretty simple, and they'll have their awesome gear sets, t-wing and all the custom rcs/slp spools. There is no negatives here.
  9. Its a massive advantage for marketing alone. A Zillion DC could be huge.
  10. Yea i am aware, but i've seen plenty of videos on youtube people having issues with that braking system where it would change braking adjustements on its own, or set itself for maximum braking force. Not interested in the Chinese stuff tbh. Also, just found out that the DC patent has already expired in a lot of places, but not in the US. Early 2025 is when it expires in the US.
  11. Was reading some stuff on reddit, and saw a guy saying how the patent for self charging DC system from Shimano is expiring early 2025. But after digging myself, it looks like its already expired earlier in 2024? So not too sure which is correct, but it does seem like Shimano's exclusivity on the DC braking is ending. Are we about to get flooded by Daiwa DC reels in 2025 and 2026?
  12. A beginner shouldn't bother with anything high end. A tatula off of Aliexpress or Japan would be perfect, all you need is an SV spool, which will have a superior control than anything from Shimano. If you're not a beginner, but primarily use spinning reels, and want to get into baitcasters, for $210 the Zillion is unbeatable, but for $150-155 you can get the Alphas, which is as smooth. Both off of amazon japan if you don't want to hunt deals on auctions or Japanese tackle sites.
  13. Exactly, way too wide, especially in the front. But what killed it for me most is the palming side plate digging into my palm when using jerkbaits. Same issue with the 2013 Metanium frame, but instead of digging into my palm during a jerk, i just find this frame to be too long and very poor to palm. Very excited to test the 2024 met dc that i hope gets delivered from Japan before it snows here. Really curious of how i feel about it palmability, especially during a jerk motion.
  14. Not sure where you saw them being twice as expensive 1-3y ago, but a 21 Zillion for $200, an Alphas Air for $150 and the 2024 Metanium DC that i just got for $225 is unmatched. I always buy rods on auction, so i am not following their msrp, tho.
  15. JDM prices are too good on daiwa and shimano to waste money on any other brand.
  16. The rod can play a role, yes. Reel seat as well. Also, how long have you been using it? It might just be a matter of getting used to the frame. I remember getting the 2016 steez, and absolutely hated it for the first 5-10 days on the water, but then i got used to it, and the discomfort was gone (even tho i never liked it for jerkbaits because the palming side plate is digging into my palm). From day one, i found the Zillion very comfy, tho, but i do have small'ish hands.
  17. I have no idea about Tatulas because i don't use entry level reels anymore. As for the Zillion, i don't know what to tell you, this is best bang for buck reel that was ever made by shimano or daiwa. If you find it too small, don't bother, and sell it. Comfort is important, so don't force yourself to use it if you find it too small, but i do wonder how it could feel too small unless you have hulk hands. Reels like the aldebaran, slx, etc are smaller, and i don't see anybody complaining about those reels being too small.
  18. Braking dial? The mag dial are your brakes, not the spool tension. They call it zero adjuster for a reason, you're not supposed to touch it unless you install a custom spool, and need the side to side play adjusted. As for your second concern, i have never had this, nor even heard anyone who've had it. The only way i can even see it happening is if the spool is missing the spool pin which isn't engaging with the pinion gear. edit: ehh old thread
  19. I didn't receive it yet, but i expect to pay, yea. Probably around $20.
  20. In Canada as well, and outside of small stuff, nothing is worth buying here in stores. I ordered a 24 met dc in new condition from Japan (off of an auction, not a store) for about $305cad plus $25cad shipping. Here, the reel is $730cad and $840cad with taxes. Like are you kidding me right now? Approaching $1000 for a Metanium. Yea right...
  21. You have a choice of an SLX for $100 from Japan or some $140 Lews. What are you buying🤢 Coming from someone who feels that smoothness leads to weakness. I will seek help, but you're already in line, so right after you.
  22. I can't even tell if you're being serious with this kind of comments. Complete insanity to say the least. As for the Lews comment. If Daiwa and Shimano exists, and their reels can be had for the same price or cheaper (when purchased from Japan), what is the point of a Lews reel? What was the last decade this company has even innovated? As i see it, Lews existance serves only one purpose, and that's selling sub $150 fishing gear to normies/kids/teenagers. In other words, its a brand that survives on selling fishing rods and reels to somebody that doesn't know any better, or doesn't care what they're using. This is Lews for you, and this is why those who care about quality are mostly ignoring the brand, and this will never change in the future. All in all, its not an overlooked brand, but a pointless brand to most enthusiats.
  23. Well, to me, smoother and longer lasting gear sets is pretty much a priority, especially at the price they're selling these, it ain't no more $20 for a gear set like in the mid 2000 models. When it comes to weight, comfort, etc, they're so samey that there isn't enough of a difference. But yes, different brakes and swappable spools with Daiwa is also a big difference.
  24. If you're saying that this was sarcasm, implying that this is what i've done when comparing the two brands, then that's nothing but stupidity. Just at this moment, i own two 2015 met dc's, 2 met mg dc, aldebaran mgl and have ordered the new met dc 3-4 days ago, which still hasn't arrived. I actually compare the higher end between the two brands instead of sticking to one, and blindly defend it because ShIMaNo Iz BeTTeR.
  25. Kinda, but i don't see why its wrong to mention their strengths and weaknesses, and compare the two. So without ever even trying one, Shimano is automatically smoother and furthest casting of any of your Daiwas. And i am the one trolling here lol. This is the kind of posts i see on reddit all the time, tho, so nothing new.
