Hag's Hurricane Bladed Jig
Why can’t we name the most popular (and the one that actually has a patent) and best bladed jig on the market here? How bizarre.

I'm strictly talking about fishing not the PGA there. And yes, a Chamber of Commerce and a Golf Club want a return on investment. The promoters interests are different than that of a sanctioning body.

It's can be about both and it doesn't have to be at the same time. Also, I want a championship that has the broadest spectrum of venues as possible. This is the way things fish in some places. If we want to see smashfests in every tournament then they might as well compete on private lakes. For an organization hosting the event, the TV ratings are pretty much irrelevant. They want people getting hotel rooms, buying stuff, filling gas tanks etc.. I actually watched on my computer Sunday as I was flying. And I thought it was good TV, particularly Schlapper and the Japanese duo.

They keep going back because the chamber of commerce or promoter is cutting a heck of a deal. Do you think the PGA plays tournaments for free? $5M might be what Tennessee brings in for ticket sales and concessions. What the SEC game brings into the city makes the number bigger. Same goes for a fishing tournament. After the crowds we saw at the Pasquatonk event, I bet we see that venue regularly.

It's not BASS's fault that the the dam from Toledo Bend was opened all the way and it dropped the temperature.

Yeah it's like watching guys play golf in Scotland or Pebble Beach with 40 mph gusts. But muh intuition. The good news he's only 7 lbs back from the cut line and 12-2 back overall.

Trout are carnivores as much as they are insectivores.

Yeah. Event coverage, interviews, pictures. I’ve only gotten three issues so far. It was better than I expected but not the old magazine I remember from the ‘90s.

The value hasn’t changed much in a while. For 15 bucks you get some swag, a magazine 8-9 times a year. It’s basically two trips to Starbucks or 1 1/2 fishing magazines that I get on impulse at the grocery store. If they make a buck on every subscription I would be surprised.

The fact that they are trying to maintain it but they aren’t trying to grow it tells me it’s a revenue stream but maybe not the most critical one perhaps. I signed up last year. I got a hat, a little bag that was kind of useless, sticker and some lures. The magazine actually has some decent content that isn’t on the internet but it’s not the same magazine that I got as a kid with a couple thousand words or more on what happpened in the tournaments. But in today’s economy I’ve gotten much less for $15 a year.

BFS pitching and flipping for trout?
I only fly fish for trout and I have done my fair share of it in Montana but trout fishing small creeks and rivers is pretty much the same everywhere. I guess it depends on the current and the makeup of the overgrown vegetation. Is it mainly just overhead cover with space underneath. If so you might be better off casting upstream and then use the current to help the bait get underneath the cut bank where they are holding. Otherwise even if you pitch into it the current will just push you into the snags. Also, try a small drop shot rig fished upstream and let the current do the work. Just maintain contact with bottom. You might catch every fish in the run. Fly fishing uses a dropshot setup these days but we use a heavy fly as the weight. An upstream or quartering across cast is almost always the ticket. BFS seems to be growing in the trout world.

I guess it depends on what he said and what the language of the agreement is. According to Ken Duke on Bass After Dark, BASS has like 500,000 subscribers/members. That's supposedly the sweet spot magazine wise because after it gets bigger the magazine makes less or loses money. One of the big problems with these niche sports is that the tv production is all in house. There really isn't much independent media other some pods and YouTube. another site is owned by Kroenke who owns MLF. Since there isn't any separation of church and state nobody can really say whatever they want. Like Ronnie Moore isn't going to get up there and decry something about BASS. JT isn't going to say something bad about MLF etc.

Sabine River Elite series
I can’t believe I bothered to look this up. Taking it with a grain of salt but apparently it took place at Hartwell. The angler in question made disparaging comments about Hite’s coverage and it was pay a $5000 or not fish the first day. Sounds like old news that someone resurrected.

I predicted 44 lbs would win. Looking forward to seeing a different cast of characters at the top.

Wiper. He lost one that looked twice that size. I'm learning more about them. They come in surprising close, thinking about throwing some flies I use for stripers at them.

New Video: The Free Rig vs. The Texas Rig
I tried it too. I bought the nice correct weights and everything. Even tried it with a Geecrack Bellows Gill which is supposed to be free rig staple. I fish lots of weedy bottoms. So it performs just ok. I wouldn't bother using it in less that 5 feet of water. Texas Rig is still king for me. When I get up to the Northeast this summer and fish some deeper rock lakes I will give it another go. I actually used those little black bobber stops behind and ahead of bullet sinker so I can switch from Carolina to Texas without a toothpick.

Being a single parent and having a busy weekend schedule this spring my trips have been 2-3 hours max. On Saturday all I had time for was an hour before a soccer game and an hour after dinner but I limited both times on two different ponds, capped off with nice one of everyone's favorite jerkbait. Overall the spring has been good. We need rain bad. Took my oldest out who is obsessed with golf and can barely cast a spinning rod. I tied on The Mayor and told him to throw it out there and something would happen. Didn't take long. The rest are just rando pictures. Hoping to get some full day trips in some day and to take the Kayak out.

Do you ever go big?
Yeah when I am fly fishing I use big 6-7 inch long flies on saltwater hooks even.
