My jerkbaits are saved!

Featured Replies

I have a big problem with aggressive spotted bass blowing the eyes off my jerkbaits. I went to Bass Pro today just cruising around and looking at everything and I found these stick on eyes. I never knew these were even out there. I thought to myself that these would be great to replace the lost eyes on a jerkbait. OMG I think I might like the aftermarket eyes better than the ones that come on it. Here is a pic of the packaging and a comparison pic as well. Stock eyes are on the right and the aftermarkets on the left. The examples are Berkley Stunna 112+1s.

I don’t care what anyone out there says about buying baits, spending money, etc…

It really doesn’t take much to satisfy us… 😂😂

I was rigging tackle for a veterans tournament I am host boating tomorrow and I literally spent about 15 minutes just admiring how awesome looking this 6th sense divine swim jig looked and how it's gonna land me a 6+ pound bluebill munching bucketmouth out of the grass tomorrow! Yes I'm easily amused!

I have to admit, I am a 6th sense (what’s the word for someone that prostitutes their body for money)? Rhymes with oar. I love their baits.

Is that a 13 fishing rod? Fate black maybe? I bought one on clearance for about $16 one day and wish I’d have bought the entire lot.

Yes! Good Eye it is a pre Rapala 13 fishing Fate. Most of my rods are Fate and Blacks. They were so much better than their price tag back in the day. I snatch every one I can at the flea markets up and squirrel them away like a pack rat. Heck my favorite rod is a Black series Atomic 7'6 heavy I use for glide baits. It is a beast.

Mine is a pre-Rap as well. I use it as my go to topwater rod. It almost always has a frog, walking bait or crawler on it.

I use them on everything from ball head jigs to soft plastic swim baits. I even added multiple small ones on a lipless to make it appear like a small ball of baitfish. I get mine from a craft store, they carry different sizes.

I didn't know you could still get those. I had some about 20 years ago.

Where can I get these? I need something for eyes off swimbaits so bad I've started daydreaming about how to do it. The stick-on eyes are useless.

These are fly fishing "dumbbell eyes".

They even make metal ones if you want nose weight.

Obviously, these work well in Elaztech stuff. They work less well in very delicate plastics. In that case, I separate the plastic eyes, push the "pin" through then reattach with crazy glue or Mend It.

But if you have deft touch and patience, they can be inserted into many plastics in a single piece.

I just use swingheads with eyes these days. Very pleased with these.

I haven’t used a swing head before. Whats your technique with those? whats the advantage of a swing head?

Nothing really special as far as technique vs. other weighted swimbait hooks. As least I don't do anything special.

But due to the "Free" nature of the hook, the swimbait action is better IMO.

The designer they started with is still there and I dont think they have changed the way they build rods.  My favorite is the last gen of the Muse Black, wish I bought a few more.

I got to pick a few models of the Oath line.  They feel pretty good for $100.  I dont like the Oath grips on the spinning rods and not crazy about most of the new rods not having an exposed blank in the handle, but Im not really sure how much that actually matters.

Thanks. My particular use case is on an a-rig where it seems like exposed hooks are the deal, especially when they are nipping at it.

On the fly eyes, any of it big enough for 5-6" swimbaits?

Yes.

Just figure out the width you need and order accordingly. The image is an example of sizes.  Might be some trial and error for sizing in the beginning. On the occasion where there isn't an exact fit, I just cut perfectly in the middle, and inserted each of them into swimbait like thumb tacks. Then used crazy glue. BTW, I knew another guy who used thumb tacks! Those he stuck in and held them with glue. Then he'd put decal eyes onto the thumb tack faces.

If you have a local fly shop, even better.
