Vermont Angler eats record Smallmouth
This came out Sept 2025, not that long ago. The bass measured 24” looks to be a big smallie. Probably bogus. Tom

Texas Rig - paralysis by analysis
The rod isn’t a big factor pitching lures, it’s mostly the reel. The roll cast is another story mostly the rod tip launching the lure. What line are you using? Tim

Reel Maintenance Mega Thread
Acetone is a keytone base chemical that can unzip ( breakdown) most polyimde (Nylon) polymers. Cleaning metal parts Acetone is a good degreaser but you need to use caution to protect yourself. Denatured alcohol or mineral spirits are a lot safer and may require more effort to clean parts. Listen to the experienced reel technicians.

I feel like the outlier at Bass Resource because I just don't know.
What prompted the quip was the OP stated the bass were following his boat! Buck Perry would have something to add about trolling lures. Trolling is so ineffective it’s not allowed bass tournaments. Tom

Not a good fly fisher, maybe spin for trout?
Suggest you hire a good fly fisherman to properly teach you the casting mechanics and how to reed current breaks. Fly fishing in streams is the way to go. Harry Thomas lives near you and builds T&T custom fly rods and is a tournament level bass angler. Tom

Giant LMB
Ron was one of my fishing partners since the late 60’s and we bass fished together at every local lake in SoCal. Ron never caught a DD bass, 8 lbs was his PB. We caught thousands of bass together and Ron netted a few of my giant bass. Why?…….who knows as he was a very good bass angler. Ron liked to change lures and try everything catching bass was more important to him then one big bass. Me, I was focused on that one big bass. Tom

$50 Casting Rod, whats out there?
Shipping cost kill any chance to get a decent $50 casting rod on line. Go into the big box stores and pick out a rod that feels good to you. Good time to get clearance rods! Tom

Giant LMB
Soccer field size pond producing a big bass is unusual but not impossible. The pond needs fresh water exchange and abundant prey to support a DD size bass. Giant bass in Florida is 15+ lbs. Tom

Cold wet hands!
I used the hunting mittens that flipped up to open the fingers to keep hands warm when waterfowl hunting. Wool gloves with thumb and 2 finger tips cut off for fishing, today you have lots of choices. Cold fingers you loose dexterity and can’t knots. Keeping your head and body core warm is more important than hands imo. Tom

Late fall vs ice out
Fall down Spring up the difference between seasonal periods. The bass migration routes could be similar behavior is very different, slowing down vs speeding up. Tom

Interesting knot I found.
Tie the SD jam knot the same way as the Pizen using the lure weight. The+only difference is passing the tag end through the lower loop, just as fast and easy. Tom

RUNCL neoprene 3 cut finger gloves for kayak fishing. Tom

Interesting knot I found.
San Diego jam knot ( put the tag end through the lower loop before the upper loop) is a stronger knot and more reliable for FC line. Tom

First time boat owner
Wanting your boat to look good will not make run good. Put your efforts 1st into checking out the outboard engine, the trolling motor and all the electrical components including batteries. Clean electrical contact points, batteries etc. new water pump is good insurance. Don’t over look the boat trailer, if the tires are older then 8 years they need to changed. Welcome to boating and practice backing up your rig before heading out to the water. Glenn has video’s for everything👍 Tom
