In the market for a 'survival' type knife
I do it all, except for the screwing of course with a Case Trapper. It cuts and holds an edge.

Looking for new source of fishing stuff.
Put order in Friday 17th in at BPS for two bags of worms. Now its the 21st and its Still In Process. They are being slow. Is there a place a body can order what they want and get it fast. I have had the same problem with Cabelas and Basspro. > Surely there has to be another supply house to get my stuff. thanks

what kind of boat should i get?
The easiest way to find a good used boat is to put your want in your local paper and let them call you. Its amazing what you can find if people know you are looking. i put an ad in the paper and had a dozen or more calls in my small town. And sometimes they don't know what they have or just want to get rid of it in a hurry. Don't discount local People are always trading or getting bigger or better boats.

Launching a bass boat alone
The line you are talking about is a safety line. I don't use it, I have got i a bad way and loaded up with the power off the trolling motor. The biggest thing you hafta worry about is your motor. Always remember to tilt your motor or it can be torn off and is hard on props. My best suggestion is to solicit help form a friendly angler. I just got my bass boat a couple of months ago and that is how I learned. Good luck, have fun and be safe. My procedure is this I get the straps off back her in till I can see about 2 inches of the fenders above the water. then I climb in the boat and let the motor down at about a 45 degree angle. the pum the primer bulb and crank it up. then I go up to the front off the boat and let the winch off. At that point the boat is free and I can back it off. and tie it to the dock and park my trailer. When I was using a v-bottom I would tie a rope to the boat and the truck and back in fast then pull up effectively beaching the boat. I don't do this with my more expensive boat.

what kind of boat should i get?
Yes, with your budget you should be able to find a good sized used one and have plenty of money left over to pimp it out with all the goodies, i.e. electronics, seats, paint, floors, etc. And as always with any boat the wider the better, especially with a jon boat. I'll second that, he's right on the money.

Just to run the motor...

Outboard troubles :-?
The usual suspect would be. Plugs, filters, carb, fuel lines. I'm not sure about mercury's but, I would check for a fuel filter and replace it if it had one. If your motor is pumping water I don't know why you would service the impeller. It wouln't hurt to change the plugs and carry an extra set with a wrench for emergencies. I wouldhave somebody clean the carbs also. If you are handy with a wrench get a manual you can get lots of good info in there.

Carolina Rig Tips
pull rod tip up and then drop it back down take up the slack. then repeat. experiment with the speed Mr. bass will tell ya what he wants.

Carolina Rig Tips
I'll second that on the keeper, I have used it and had success. And if you chew your line up on rocks the only thing you really have to retie is your hook. They are cheap and worth the money. Also check out the bullt floaters at BPS puts a little more action in it.

Trailer Lights @%#&!!!
unplugging the lights would be the most cost effective. If you are going to change them I would reccomend commercial trailer lamps. they are sealed just plug em in, if they go out it just a matter of unplugging and plugging in a new one

Is this a good deal?
With the first boat I would go with a running boat. Hate to see you get run off from fishing cause your boat wouldn't get you there.

What is a good canoe to bass fish from.
Looking for good advice on what to look for in a canoe for fishing. I have a Bassboat but, I also would like to have, a small craft for packability in small lakes and streams. I'm 6'1" 250 lbs and my son will also be along he's about 50 lbs. So I tink I should get one that would hold 500 lbs or better and a lot of stability. Anybody with experience with such craft. Thanks.

Learning to fish on your own
I found some good info in Woo Daves videos. You can find 'em at the Bass Pro. Mostly I started out with vibra rooster tails and plastic worms and a lot of experimentation. Woo's video is easy to understand by the average redneck, me. My favorite bait is a Zoom Brushog, I nice fellow threw me a pack one day on the lake. Get you somebody you can compete with two competitive spirits in a boat will foster experimentation and if you share secrets you will learn from each other.

Flipping and pitching while sitting down
I never could get the knack for gettting it in the water pretty like the pros. I try to hit the bank and wiggle it off the edge if it is safe enough. You can usually get a plastic worm through grass if you raise your rod and gently hop it. Jigs and such you probably shouldn't listen to me.
