  1. well a simple bitsy bug 1/8 ounce jig should is great well if im actually planning on just fishing bluffs i will use a 3/16 ounce finess jig then if they are really hitting it and there are some bigger ones on it i will cast a 1/2 ounce denny braurer pro stike jig my buddy only uses yum crawbugs im dont even sure he owns a jig lol im sure he does but he really really likes that craw
  2. no not really my buddy really stressed that u must drag the bait on teh bottom instead of hopping it and fish very slow he said that the fish hold on irregular features on the bluffs or points and when you must keep in contact with the bait then when u find a rock or weed just shake the bait there and u will get bite when we go we both catch fish but he definetly catches bigger ones he fishes painfully slow but it works that might be why your overlooking the area
  3. well ok i really dont have any idea what to do what type of paint do i use spraypaint? or like that model car paint how do i get detail into paint job? just give me some type of guidelines to follow
  4. wow really? yea some bluffs are alot better than others the best ones i found were at my buddy's camp there are alot but few that are deep or tapering but the fish do hold on them the bigger ones have random rock and some grass on them those are the ones you want to target if there was ever a tournament on raystown branch that would be what i would target because it is one of the few pieces of structure u are sure to catch at least a few good size ones off that and deeper random rock piles
  5. i see alot of pics about members repainted there cranks and that and i was wondering how do i take a crank that i dont like the color of and repaint it? im very new to the hole tacklemaking process thanks
  6. o man really? if i find one i can spend all day there catching nice fish for the steeper and deeper ones no pun intended i like a carolina rig, a grub, or a suspending jerkbait if they are steep but kinda shallow i fish with a craw or small jig if the bluffs arent as steep and taper i like using jigs, topwater poppers or even crankbaits my buddy is pretty good at fishing the tapering bluffs he uses craws alot he can really finess the thing around rock piles lol yea well i guess he would have to be pretty good at fishing them he fishes them all the time
  7. hmm idk i really think they will not discontinue it they might slow down production but will not cut it out no way i really dont care i like the old rebel jerkbaits and the smithwicks so but they would have to be absolutely insane to discountinue one of there highest selling baits
  8. o really? a buddy of mine has a camp just one hole above hartley wow he has a boat on the river there and we always go fishing but target docks, bluffs and deep coves hmm i got to check that out next time im over there
  9. i got one last fall and never found time to try it
  10. o ok thanks that great info my cousin showed me a way of fishing lures in current and i tryed it on one of the branch rivers of the potomac and i knocked them dead with it so i thought since u fish the potomac your info would be good which it is thanks
  11. wow there are alot of hypocriates anyone that fishes during the spawning season is fishing spawning bass u might not be targeting beds but if your blind casting chances are u are going to drag the bait over a bed and catch a bass and if u see a gaint on a bed i dont care who u are u are going to fish for it the only people who say they dont fish for spawning fish are people that are staying home during the season
  12. hey dave i dont want to sound like a jerk or anything but if u scatch the paint then hit a rock with the crank wouldnt the paint chip easiler since you created a weak spot?
  13. heddon torpedos work pretty good if the grass flat is shallow i never tryed flukes hmmm i dont do very good on them anywhere on that river yea the channel is neat i like that entire hole the broken dam really holds fish then there is a grade slope from the camp side then there is a shelf on the away side with alot of bank grass then on the top side of the hole there is a bunch of medium size rock with that channel pike and musky sit in the hole alot too though which sucks
  14. well unless a bass hits it and u miss it then it twists pretty bad but i dont use one
  15. hey WV can u tell me excaltly how u drift ripples on rivers? i do good sometimes by throwing a single tail grub downstream and dancing it back up through the riffles but how do u do it?
  16. 2 inch mr twisters work for me either in white or charetruse
  17. strike king i like both the pro model and bitsy bug bitsy bug is a very good smallmouth jig
  18. omg that would suck
  19. hey WV i was wondering if u fish the south branch of the potomac i fished it once im not sure if i have the right name its really clear well that river is the best river i ever fish for riffle smallies i have never had the much success drifting baits through riffles like that
  20. well the channel bite depends on if the fish are on the edge of the canyon or inside it if they are on the edge i use a yum crawbug on a shaky head if they are inside a craw color trig senko for the grass bite it depends on the time of year for the spawn i will use a powerbeast in the summer if the fish are really on the piles a x rap ripping hard through the grass if there is alot of fish in the grass and inbetween patchs i will use a senko with a small piece of lead in it rigged weightless texas so i just tick the top of the weeds and let it sink in the holes usally if the water is low and clear the fish are hidding deep in the weeds if the water is low and overcast or murky they are on the piles
  21. ok its not right at the top end of cyphus or whatever its a few holes up the big hole has a broken dam on it there is a few holes in it but it holds up alot of water well there is a big rock on the far side (away from the camps) on the grass bank side also i actually sit on the rock and cast the bait into teh hole there is a channel running through it its only about 4 or 5 feet wide but very trench like it drops off close to 10 feet well alot of bass sit on the edge there well then the river bends and there is some flat water with alot of grass on the bottom i will cast to the banks but looking for bright spots in the grass the bright spots are rock piles and the bass really set up on them well then up closer to the top end there are a few wing dams on the camp side that people made to create small swimming holes i like fishing the under side of them for bass which set up for ambushing then there is a large riffle with a big rock pile and eddy in the middle with some bank grass i will fish the pools there with a tube or worm then head up on the camp side even though there are no camps there there is a series of ledges that creat rapids with pools i like senkos and tubes then there is a deep hole at the top end with some scatter boulders the fishing there is pretty good not much pressure its behind the bowser farm i never fished any father up then that but im sure the father u get away from the road the better the fishing
  22. yea thats it my mistake i thought it was cyprus aaa yea my great uncle and grandfather used to have a camp lot just a few holes above cypher beach there is a really big hole with some ledges rock and even bank grass then just above it is a long series of rapids with deep ledges creating small pools thats were i go alot then im not sure if u would know or not but when u cross tatesville bridge and get on bowser farm road the first parking lot i fish there alot too
  23. Same except I'm on shore because the creek is not very wide. Maybe 20 yards wide. Toss em up stream in the rapids and let her come down.....nails em. 8-) yea i like this technique alot too its not my go to presentation though i like fishing shallow in the morning then going to deeper pockets then if the heat and sun gets really bad then i go to the rapids and current for key bites So what is every's favorite river smallie bait? mine would have to be the tube
  24. lol yea smallie fishes everywhere on that river i like to go around cyprus which is below tatesville but above hopewell
