  1. i would try to fish a few times tis winter that way you know for the future about how that bite is in the winter i fish all over the place where i live and some of the fisheries are useless in the winter and then some are great at times in the winter it nevers hurts to try
  2. o ok sounds good i was also wondering about lure selection the article suggested a tube or senko and worms but when fishing this on the river i want to try the rig has loads of fishing pressure and tubes, worms, senkos and grubs are overly fished i was wondering if a fluke could be tied on
  3. yea spinners are weedless when fished right i like to throw them around wood and what they call slow rolling it by slowly reeling it in and when it hits a branch or something speed it up then pause it works well but in rainy conditions i just throw it over ledges ditches or small creek channels with a easy and steady retrieve
  4. what comes out when it rains? nightcrawlers i like to use a 5in powerworm in a reddish color on a t-rig right after it rains spinnerbaits work kind of well for me when it rains
  5. well first off if it was overcast i wouldnt fish pads mostly because they use the pads for shade and wouldnt be in them i would fish close to them maybe in a cheek channel or open water try a heavyier line, rod and a real heavy tungsten weight to bury that bait under the pads and if you still cant get under them try using something that dispaces more water like a topwater buzzbait, buzz frog or mouse the fish will do the rest
  6. depends on weeds if there are weeds or grass i use texas but if it is open water or a river i usally use it hooked straight on a jighead i dont do good fishn wacky
  7. i fish for smallies all the time in small creeks my best bait would be a tube on a jighead and throw it to bolders and undercut rocks in more open water try a fluke also a 5in powerworm works pretty good season round powerbeast is a good spring and early summer pattern for any others just PM me i have a pile of ideas that might work for you i just need to know about some of the cover in your area
  8. the article suggested 10 pund line for everything yea it was for pitching rapids and ripples with deeper pockets thanks im definetly going to try it next year
  9. just so you know in the prespawn its the males that make the beds and sit on them intil the spawn then the female comes they do there thing then i think the male leaves so if you take a fish off a bed in the prespawn it probly wont hurt too much because alot of times a smaller male will hop onto the already made bed this is my understanding of how the spawn works for listening to biologist in my area and in my state they close the season for the spawn because of that sure its catch and release only i think that its just for protection of that fish because its so easy to catch bass in the spawn in the northern states
  10. i just read an article from Bassmaster magazine and it was about floating a river using a catfish rig for heavy current and catching huge smallies. the rig is the main line attaching to a 3 way swivel one end to a foot leader and a heavy bell weight the other about 6-16 in leader to the bait (they used a tube). the river they were fishing was very similar to a river i fish alot and i really am thinking about using the rig i was just wondering if anyone has used it, and how they did on it and any tips they might have. thanks and merry christmas everyone
  11. and just north west of gettysburg is the raystown lake which holds a good many smallies along with the feeder river the raystown branch of the junita river if you want contact me next summer if you want to fish the river together i know it pretty good o and as far as the heat the bite is best in june but the heat isnt too bad mostly because you are wading the river any questions just PM me thanks later
  12. yea i also bought a small one sided oar to tie onto the float tube and help me get around thanks for all the tips im goin to look into buyin a pontoon as soon as i can afford it but intil then a float tube will be good enough
  13. i always have 4 baitcasting combos and 2 spinning combos and i become attached to my rods. the only time i replace my rods are when they break, which happen kinda often. my reels get replace whenever they go bad, but i never just sell off my rods and reels. i will buy spare rods n keep them in my closet in case i break one mostly spinning rods. thats just me but all anglers are different
  14. yo this bait is the hardest bait to get your hands on but if anyone is selling it i will buy i have 1 pack and i want some more this bait is awesome !!!!!! and i dont care about color
  15. i always use hockey grip tape on the lower cork end of my rods and was looking through a catolog and seen grip tape made just for rods. i just wanted to know how good that works and just wanted people to know that an inexpensive way to to the same thing is using hockey tape. http://www.uk-hooks.com/details.php?selected=434 also in the catalog i seen grips that go over your reel handles and was just wondering how good they do. http://www.reelgrip.com/
  16. very nice info too bad non of the places i fish have wingdams i keep this info handy in case i find some
  17. im havin the same problem the only success i found on my smaller river was a small cotten cordel crankbait. i threw the entire box at them last time and caught 2 little ones on that crankbait
  18. there are spots on the river that has pretty fast current but i know of some spots that has barely any at all, that is where i was going to go. i was wondering if you can sightfish out of them? it seems to me that you sit low in them.
  19. hey i got a float tube last christmas and only used it once. i wanted to fish out of it next year on a river and was just curiosly if anyone else uses one and if anyone has any tips for me on fishing out of them thanks
  20. dependin your fishing prefence(alot of small fish or few monsters) i would say to target quick dropping shorelines and fish what ever deep visible structure u can find to catch them. i like to use 1/16 weedless jigheads with a green plumpkin 3 inch senko on it and just bounce it around the deep structure. You be sure to hook into a few smallmouth by doing this.
  21. I use mr. twisters alot when the fishing is slow on a 1/16 jighead 3 inch chartuse. just let them fall then bounce of the bottom on a semi quick retrieve. if you are fishing weeds, try around the weededge.
  22. was also wondering how do u post pictures?
  23. hi im new to this bulletin board but i love to fish for smallmouth and just wondering if anyone is from PA
