I caught an episode of Fishing with Roland Martin the other day... which by the way is only about 10 min of fishing and 20 min plugging BPS and Triton boats. Anyway he was fishing off shore for giant grouper, and he used a formula to figure out the weight of the fish by multiplying the Length x girth x girth / 800. Is there a formula like this for bass or other gamefish?

Well Bob I took your advice and went back to dicks today, but... all they had were premeirs and they werent on sale. I also looked for the shimano clarus but they did not have any of those either. Oh well I guess I will just have to wait a while

Well... I guess its good I didnt just buy it. They did have a few Avid's for $100, as well as some comparable All Stars. I fell in love with a G Loomis Rod but there is no way I can spend $220 on a fishin' rod. :'( As for the Clarus I will have to keep my eye out for that. My friend broke one of my cheap rods over the summer (he thought it was expensive) and said he would buy me a new one. Maybe I can get him to buy it. He's rich.... Thanks for all the help.

I was at Dick's today and saw this series of rods. I found one I liked, a 6'6 med fast action spinning rod for $59.99, I think it was a miss print because all the rest were about $100. Does anyone have this rod? Should I buy it? There were a couple for this price. Also, would that be a good rod for fishing soft plastics like senko's and/or drop shotting? If not what would you recommend? Oh yeah, If anyone knows where I can get a shimano stradic 2500FH in the Nashville/ Franklin TN area for less than $100 that would be great too.

I am having the same problem. I found last years model on clearance at academy and BPS in Nashville a month ago for $99, but didnt have the money. Now that I have the money both stores are sold out of course. Dick's in Franklin, TN only has the stradic 4000 for $109 but I don't really want a spinning reel that big. What should I do? The new 2500FI is really nice I may just spring for it....

I have a couple of the 2 and 3 series crankbaits, I got at Academy Sports on clearance for a $1 but haven't used them. I also got one of their lipless cranks on sale too, and have caught a ton of fish with it, including a 5# lmb and a 10# striper. So for the price they are good.

Well how do I do it? I had 2 yrs of basic engineering classes in college, it can't be that hard. How many times a year should I lube up my reels? I usually only do it once or twice a season, since I only get to fish a 3-4 times a month. Is that not enough? Should I do it everytime I fish?

Ok got any recommendations? I like the round reels... Shimano Cardiff are in my price range, is that a good choice?

I have a capricorn xtc reel. It does ok, but I only bought it cause I was out of town and needed a cheap reel to go fishing with a friend. I have used it a couple times since I bought it in August and it started to make a squealing noise, so I tried to take it apart and lube it up, and the screws holding it together stripped out, so I cant get it apart. Now it just sits in my garage. Save your money, and get a better reel.

So the anti-reverse is going out on favorite reel, quantum iron acs, its about ten years old. It just started doing it today and it doesnt go in reverse everytime but it does make it a little harder to set the hook. Is it an easy fix or should I just buy a new reel. What is a good round baitcaster for $100-150?

Ok so heres the deal, its been 70 degrees and beautiful all this week in TN, unfortunately I've had to work. Anyway I get tomorrow off, but It just started raining and its gonna be 20 degrees cooler tom. highs only in the low 50's but sunny. So should I go fishing or stay home? If I do what are some good baits to use after a front moves through? Should I fish fast or slow or really slow?

toss'em out and reel 'em in. I found they work best around rocks, but anywhere works too.

I caught my biggest bass TODAY! She was 19 1/2 in and fat. Weighed in at 5.25lb. I also caught 8 smaller ones... 1 3lber, 3 other keepers and 4 dinks . It was a great 3 hours!

I will probably be fishing the upper end of the lake from the dam down to the hobson pike bridge to the rock shelf along the channel, bout a half a mile past the bridge. I heard the lake temp was still in the 60's? Most of the time I will be trolling for stripers, but I will stop if I see anything bustin' shad on top. Thanks for the help!

Has anyone fished here lately. It has been a month or two since I have gotten out there. I plan on going saturday, looking for any helpful advice.

Some people are just plain ignorant. I know I had probably one of the only calm spots on the lake but still its not like im gonna be able to go very far in my 12'ft pelican boat. There were 2-3 ft swells and whitecaps out in the channel.

I think I would have rather stayed home and watched the Titans game, I should have known it was a bad day by the amount of trucks towing their bass boats going the opposite way I was on I-65.

That is a good question. I guess I would save him if he was drowning, but I might let him squirm around in the water for a minute.

So I decided to decided to go fishing this morning in my little jon boat w/ only a trolling motor even though the wind was howling. I found a quiet cove, close to the boat ramp, that was semi-protected from the wind, and fished for a while with no luck. I was trying to learn to fish the jig-n-pig and I started to tell the difference between rocks and tree limbs. Then about 12 o'clock another guy in his big ole' bass boat comes to my spot and pretty much forced me out of there. He throws both of his anchors in literally 10 ft from my boat, and starts fishing the brush I am. I don't understand!!!! I could not believe he did that, Its a 14,000 acre reservoir! I WANTED TO JUMP IN HIS BOAT AND KICK HIM IN THE STONES!
