  1. tourney fishin, its our first club tourney of the year. unfortnatley missed the signups for this year on the college flw. were launching out of powhatan pt. ohio.
  2. river conditions should be muddy, up 1-2 ft. with a surface temp of 49-54 degrees. what would you throw for smallies?
  3. tappan lake is very tricky really can be stuff depending on conditions stick to the rocky points on the outskirts of covers or rocky bends in the coves also the needed backwater are perfect for frogs or buzz waits later on. clendening seems to of gotten tuffer to fish I've had good luck with white senkos wacky rigged mid to late season if ur looking for tourneys pm me.. sorry bout the typing error im on my phone..lol
  4. y es we did very well and im going to be taking lots of vids. I mounted 2 cameras holders on the boat and plan on getting atleast 1 camera. I think ill be fishing the stc club with my partner and possibly powhaton club ran by max cook.
  5. Day one, we launched from shady side hit up a few usual spots and warm water spouts where water temp was around 53Degrees pulled in 4 smallies all day. Day 2 went above the d**n and hit a hole of smallies in about 8 ft under some heavy rock cover in about 44degree water. Caught about 5 a piece out of that hole in about 2 hours and moved 2 a few other spots without any luck. I would of had pics but my phone took a nice dive into the water on day 1. With the winds today well yesterday the water was so choppy and putting out about 3 ft waves. Overall fun trip cant wait for the Wednesday night tourneys to start and
  6. Well im off to the river tomorrow. Air temp should reach about 55degrees. Water Temps, lets just say COLD.. Any way loaded my box up with some Tubes, Small Hair Jigs, a Cpl smaller cranks. anything else you think I should throw in? Any tips on how to fish em except SLOW n STEADY?
  7. I have a 125HP Mariner motor. I was fishing a tournment with my buddy the other day and we ran into some trouble. Running at full power we were fine. But once we hit a no wake zone and throttled down at idle speed(no wake) the motor was sputtering and sounding like it bogged down and shut off. We re started it and it did the same thing all the way back to the marina. What would be causing this. Fast replys needed. Thanks, JJ
  8. raul where and who do i send this to?
  9. http://www.fieldandstream.com/fieldstream/igfa/ohio.html Are these legit? If so, WOW. his will not be hard at all on a few of the. I just caught a 4.92 on 12lb test line. (i do it alot). If so, how do you go about certifying your catch and getting it into the record books? Any help is appricated. Thanks, JJ
  10. i was out today and my biggest was only 4.67 lbs. Only caught 3 after that. ive seen some quality lunkers in that pond. Over 7lbs. It was extremly hot. fish more at night on hot days in the shallows, deep in mid-day.
  11. Please explain in full. Id like to hear why BASS cant learn...
  12. i would definaltey get a shad colored crank, jsut because it would look natural. I dont fish alot of cranks but i do have a box of nothing but cranks in all sizes and colors.
  13. A bait that would guarntee me a fish would be a senko type worm, watermelon, or pumpkin seed.
  14. A bass learns. THERES NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT. They dont get that way for nothing. Im sure they are fortunate. They have proably been caught several times and then released. I know if I was caught and drug out on a senko i wouldnt hit a senko again for awhile. Say you eat at a restraunt adn you get sick from a certain food there. I WOULD BET YOU WOULD NOT EAT THAT SAME FOOD FOR AWHILE, until your forgot about it.
  15. You have a small population of small bass then, cause they woud tear a 4" worm up. He is dealing with alot of small bass and few large. he has to use a lure to attratc the big and not the little bass. Or he has to find the loners.
  16. Texas Rig(weightless) These 2 im going to tell you. http://www.*.com/products1.php?id=60&subcat=10%20Pack&id2=61 (Pumpkin Pepper) http://www.bayououtdoors.com/5ch.html (watermelon candy) Those are my favorite 2 lures, that I ALWAYS CATCH FISH ON NO MATTER WHAT! If that isnt working try a larger bait sometimes you need bigger bait for bigger fish. The one that follows is my favorite: http://www.bayououtdoors.com/bg.html (fire and ice) (t-rig) Bullet sinker(against the bait). Fish it by picking it up and droping it as for the senkos try diffrent jerking styles. Maybe try wacky rigging? You must have confidence. Otherwise its not going change your catches.
  17. This is kind of funny, ONE OF THE HARDEST PARTS IS DONE FOR YOU(FINDING THE FISH) Now there are other parts to it, called "Fishing" Are you sure your holding the pole and casting the lure and not the other way around? What lures do you use? How do you fish them? Are you sure your electronics are setup properly? What type of water do you fish? Water temp? Air Temp? Water Color? Is it sunny or Cloudy? Those are some of the questions you should ask yourself while picking out the lure. If they arent biting switch LURES! Not trying to be mean. But ever since i got my electronics i dont think ive never not caught a fish. Throw a WIDE variety of lures your bound to catch something. JJ
  18. I fish the ohio river for smallies while flooded. I always try to find a spot where the water is nto rushing fast, and around some cover. It there are stumps fish the side that isnt breaking the current. The fish will bunch up in these areas to get away from the current. You better be good at casting ;-)
  19. Well Bob, our thought are diffrent for sure. Im a tournament angler, and i do anything to give myself the edge over the compettion. And maybe there are peple who catch larger than avg. fish consitantley. In ohio you cant get lucky enough to have the lunker to dinks ratio to be 40%-60% or so. Ohio doesnt have alot of SUPER LUNKERS we have a ratio of more id say 15%-85%. So we NEED the electronics to find them. If we both go onto an extremly large lake(neither of us fished), me with a fish finder, you with your instincts i would bet i would come in with a better 5 fish limit. Electronics are more trustworthy then your instincts. I mean, its not like i dont have insticts/skill, i dont drive around the lake looking at my electronics I have a general idea where they SHOULD BE. But the electronics just make it more percise.
  20. Basically its like this. If your pond has say 2 lunkers over 10lbs and 100 under 4lbs the odds of catching that big bass is very slim. Sure bait type has some to do with it. If your area is heavily fished with a certain type of bait try something new. Bass arent stupid. If you catch a lunker on a senko chances are it wont happen again(for awhile). Try some odd bais, also fish where there are a smaller population of small bass. If you catch nothing but dinks in a pond odds arent good to catch a lunker. Basically i told you nothing you did not know, just maybe forgot.
  21. im sure you could catch "Fish" consitantly. But the question is, will they be Larger than avg. fish? I use my fish/depth finder to not only find fish, but to locate the larger ones. As im sure everyoen else is doing the same.
  22. Ive fished all my life, and im out for fishing to catch the fish with the best fight. Some times if im just looking for a fight i CARP fish. I just love to wacth them run and man its a hell of a good time. I do love to bass fish but I have already caught a hard to beat Personal Best with a 4.87 lb smallie, and a 11 lb large mouth. THESE ARE HUGE FOR OHIO! Esp the large mouth. **EDIT** Its up to you, do you want the big ones, or do you want to catch fish? I personally do both on diffrent days.
  23. Rodger, its very easy to prove, notice a bass swimming the shore. You throw a light senko out there he pays not attention to it. Throw a dark senko out and BAM! Im not saying thats true but Color does have a play in the fish you catch the more natural the better.
