Scales do lie. They need to be calibrated from time to time. I'm not a pro on stripers but that does not look like a 50 pounder to me. And he'll need some proof that it was 2 lb test. Guiness is strict about that stuff. Since he was fishing alone he would need a photo containing himself and the supposed 2 lb test hooked onto the striper. If, by chance he can supply that, they'll just turn around and ask him how the hell he managed to take a photo like that while battling what does not appear to be a 50 pound striper with 2 lb test. According to the aricle his goal while setting out was to beat the old record on 2 lb test. THEN WHY THE HELL WOULD HE GO ALONE!!?? Just doesnt make alot of sense.

And what appears to be another on its right side towards the fin. Seriously these things have legs? That is the most @$?& up fish I've ever seen! We don't have crazy $%&@! like that around here.

I believe brown trout spawn in the spring. I live in Rochester so we don't have an area difference here. Stocked rainbow trout don't spawn well in wild. I heard brown trout are hard to catch. I've never caught one myself but its awesome you saw some trout. What lake were you on?

Why can you not go on the weekends until the freeze? You're missing all the good fishing. And for winter, my drug is skiing. I randomly hit the ice shanty with the "ol' timers" where more whisky drinking and war stories occur than fishing. But its all in good spirits. Most people get fat during the winter, not me. Between working full time (in the elements) and skiing hard, winter is definately the season of slimming down and toning out for me.

If its a body of water stocked with trout, then authorities probably won't mind. Alot of time and money is spent raising trout, transporting trout, and dumping. Fish and Game especially watch waters managed for trout because the larger portion of our license fees goes right to the hatcheries and biologists. The rest of it goes to putting in boat launches, parking areas and maintaining these facilities.

Its definately a tropical fish. Its a nocturnal fish originating from southeast Asia. It is a freshwater fish and should definately NOT be in our lakes. People with aquariums need to quit this crap.

Those fish are noodled I believe. They put their arms in the water and wait for one of those things to clamp on and then basically wrestle it out of the water. I'll stick to rod and reel.

What about the southern crossings? Marine Blvd. and Old Bridge St.? Are those damns or just overpasses? On hybrid they look like over passes. So, when the water is up I don't see why you wouldn't be able to catch anything tidal that may woner in. Especially now while salmon are spawining. The coordinates you gave kinda put me at what looks like a d**n with a dirt road on top of it. But the geography of the area (Wilson Bay) kind of looks a little like my area (Great Bay/Piscataqua Rvr. NH). I would fish it up.

Are the stripers even around anymore? In my area (NH) I've been told, "they moved on but you may catch a blue fish". So, I haven't even bothered going.

Two suggestions. First, the fish may not know the catalogue number of every lure in the BPS catalogue, but they will disappear and not come back if you spook them. Stay back from the edge of the stream, and avoid having your shadow fall over the water. Don't stomp around either. Second, Senkos. Oh yeah, polarized sun glasses.

The DuPage River, a tributary of the Des Plaines River. The East Branch rises in Bloomingdale, Illinois and flows south through Glendale Heights, Glen Ellyn, Lisle, Woodridge and parts of Naperville and Bolingbrook before joining the main river and continuing south. The river has no real significant history other than the fact its named after a French trader who settled on the river. Since the river flows from Rush Lake you would be able to catch bass, sunfish, channel cat, crappie, bluegill, carp and horned pout. There is a 1.6 mile shoreline along the East Branch that is a popular fishing spot. The East Branch is protected and flows through the East Branch Forest Preserve located between Glen Ellyn Rd. and Rte. 53. I don't believe they stock this river with trout. Maybe with bass to control mosquitos. You could probably "noodle" some channel cat out.

Definately a white crappie

Going trout fishing there today. Anyone have any pointers? The final fish and game fishing report said that trout would be cruising "the cooling shorelines" to feed. In my experiences with fish and game I've realized that comes to fishing they can be off key.......... on occasion, way off key. So, my question is: when I go to Bow Lake today, where would I find the trout?

I would hit up the rock reefs and the submerged trees the map shows in the northeast. Structure structure structure.

I also have recently got inot fly fishing. I've yet to catch my first salmon. Did you reel in by hand, laying the line down? Any tips you can give me would be awesome.

I would think that a full sized rainbow or brookie would be too big for a bass or pickerel to eat. I'm not sure if a pike would bother. Its more than less the fry that gets sabatoged.

Yeah. Definately fibreglass. I was told its like 30 years old. She's a champ. A little heavy. Metal gunnels.

I have a fairly old "Lincoln" canoe I would like to re-paint. I don't even think they make these canoes anymore. I'm just wondering if I have to strip the old paint off, or sand it, and what kind of paint to use. Any ideas on a ballpark figure of how much it would cost?

That sux. The photos of my area are only a couple of years old. I'm able to zoom right in and see dams. I can pick out courses on rivers, and in winter I can zoom in on chair lifts at ski resorts and even pick out routes for the next day. But, nothing beats my Delorme Atlas. I'm dam near in love with the thing.

Yeah. Google Earth is the balls. What's even better................... a Delorme Atlas. Thanks to Delorme I found a nice little pond 4 minutes down the road with smallmouth and pickerel in it. I never knew it was there and I've been living here for 18 years! I'd imagine the fishing pressure is fairly light. I think I'll check it out at lunch time with some shore casts to see what I get.

Thanks. I will definately be trying the flies. I have no clue on finding fish eggs. I can make the sack but where would I get fish eggs?

Heading up to Merrymeeting River on Monday in hopes to catch some spawning salmon. Any suggestions, tips, advice? I've only fished this river once (for bass) so I'm unsure of how far out of Winni. the salmon will travel. Much thanks in advance.
