  1. Glad to have you here. Did you bring beer?
  2. Glad to have you here. Did you bring beer?
  3. God bless you. That was beautiful. My son-in-law was born seven weeks early. He is now a successful attorney and one of my best friends. I'll expect great things from Cam.
  4. Back in the mid 70's I caught one of the biggest Mudfish, Grennel, Bowfin I have ever caught while bass fishing in Lake Carr at night with a muskie jitterbug on the end of a jiggerpole. Jiggerpole! Man, I had forgotten all about that technique. I caught my personal best bass, 9 pounds 6 ounces, on Carr last month.
  5. pliers, then i kill it. either that or i kill it first, then use pliers. That brings up another question. Is it ethical (not in the PETA sense) to kill a native fish just because you don't like it and it competes with your preferred species?
  6. Call them mudfish, bowfin, grinnel, or those @%$##? toothy SOBs, I hate handling them. How do you folks get a mudfish off when you catch one? I was thinking about getting one of those Boga Grip type devices.
  7. I keep threatening to fish Lake Carr at night, but my wife would just figure that I was out tomcatting.
  8. I'm with you, Arul. If God didn't want us to lip bass He would have given them big ol' teeth like muskies. ;D I fished a club tournament a couple of weeks ago with a guy who wanted to use a net. That thing was a pain in the butt and constantly getting in the way.
  9. Farmers used to have to wait for cold weather to slaughter hogs because they had no way to preserve the meat until it was cured.
  10. When I was a little boy in Kentucky back in the 1950s I had an uncle that always had to have the latest and greatest gadgets. He bought the first car anyone had seen in those parts with air conditioning which he kept on just about as cold as it would go. One hot summer day I was going somewhere with him when he saw a local farmer walking down the road. Uncle John stopped and gave him a ride to his farm. It was surely the first time the old farmer had ever been in an air conditioned car. "What are you going to do today, Dee?" Uncle John asked. "I don't know, John William. I was going to hoe corn, but it's turned off so cold I think I'll kill hogs."
  11. A club member showed me the SDJ the other day. It was the first time I had ever seen it. I have started using it for mono. I still tie a palomar knot for braid.
  12. I love college football. The more people there are parked in front of their televisions on Saturday the fewer there are competing with me on the lake. I just have never been much of one to sit and watch someone else play. I'd much rather be doing something myself.
  13. When I lived in Kentucky we would seine a cooler full of crawdads from the creek use them to fish for Kentucky (spotted) bass on Lake Cumberland. We would use a #2 crappie hook with a split shot or two on the line and just drop them over the side of the boat off the points. Four people could fish out of our old 14 foot Starcraft boat without getting in each other's way. Every one in a while we would catch a smallmouth.

9 pounds, 6 ounces Caught, photgraphed, and released on Labor Day 2008 on Lake Carr, Tallahassee, Florida
  15. Pickerel and pike are not the same thing.
  16. I would be really tickled if I could ever get my wife to do anything outdoors with me. You're a lucky guy. A little advice to a newbie if you don't mind. Please use capitalization in your posts. It makes them a lot easier to read.
  17. Sorry 'bout the test, but is did look like you had a good time with the bass. I believe you probably caught a pickerel rather than a pike. Around here, the locals call them jackfish or jacks. I don't think pike come this far south.
  18. I'm going to sic Long Mike on you.
  19. While they aren't cliches, I have to bite my tongue whenever I hear anyone refer to a smallmouth as a smallie.
  20. I know it's considered bad taste to quote your own post but . . . I posted that Run Silent, Run Deep was one of my all time favorites. This past weekend I was eating dinner in the restaurant at the Bay City Lodge on the Apalachicola River and they had several adertisements from the movie posted on the wall. What a coinkydink!
  21. Hey Mike! Glad to have you here. Did you bring beer?
  22. You forgot to add this emoticon. :
  23. The first place I ever heard it was from Al Lindner and the guys on his fishing show. It never made sense to me and I have never actually heard anyone else ever use it in real life.
  24. Glad to have you here. Did you bring beer?

I was listening to the news on my way to work the other day when a reporter was telling about a football player who injured his knee. She said that the player had torn his "ACLU." ;D
