Do people really talk like that?
A friend gave me a set of DVDs of the first season of The Wire. If you have ever seen the show you know that about every fifth word out of just about every character's mouth is the F-bomb. I have to wonder if I have just lived in a sheltered environment all my life but, except for posts from young California guys on a bicycle related website, I seldom hear people using that word.

Your favorite "oldies" actor?
Wasn't he the wagonmaster on Wagon Train? I remember when I was a kid that show was on Wednesday night. Back then I could tell you the day of the week by which western was on TV that night.

your first experiences
You have probably heard it before, but I will tell you again: Join a club. Join a club that accepts non-boaters and tell the guys what your situation is. You will be peasantly surprised at how generous most club fishermen are. Also, read this article: http://ezinearticles.com/?Tournament-Bass-Fishing,-Is-it-for-You?&id=628703. I found it very helpul.

Welcome Outdoor Channel!
I called Comcast this morning to order a DVR for my wife for Christmas and found that I could get a sports package that includes the Outdoor Channel for about $5 a month more. Merry Christmas to me, too.

Jig fishing guys; Winter question for you
Do any of you use braid for jig fishing? I have a tough time getting a good hookset with jigs and I was wondering if I might do better with braid and a fluorocarbon leader than monofilament. (I have had very bad experience trying to use fluorocarbon as a main line and found myself spending more time picking out overruns than fishing.)

Kim Bain/Iaconelli on CBS Evening News
With all the spectator boats, I wonder how they are going to handle the logistics of that.

St. Croix Mojo rod?
They are very light and, if you like a split grip, are a good deal. The only thing to keep in mind is that St. Croix uses Batson guides on this rod. Those guides have been a problem for some fishermen. The inserts have a tendency to fall out.

Quantum Accurist PT baitcast reel?
I bought one last year in the 6.3:1 and liked it so much I went back and bought another. It seems that Quantum has outlived the bad rep its early baitcasters got. Its recent products have been much better quality.

Mine is an '84 Tournament TX which has .090 aluminum. I have never had a leak in the boat and it has taken a beating.

Over 5" of snow in Houston and snowing in New Orleans
I used to manage a department store in Louisville, Kentucky when it snowed we would get two kinds of customers in the store: Pregnant women with little kids, and old ladies returning things they had bought months earlier. On one snowy day I had an old lady return some unworn dress shirts she had found among her late husband's things. He had been dead for fifteen years.

shotgun: pump vs. semi-auto
Pump - If you can afford the Ithaca, get it. If not, the Remington 870 is a foolproof gun that will live longer than you do.

Spinnerbait rod??
Falcon Low Rider 5-164. It's their 6'4" MH spinnerbait special. I use it for spinnerbaits up through 3/8 oz. For 1/2 oz spinnerbaits I use a Low Rider 6-166. It's a 6'6" MH that is a bit stouter.

SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder)
It's all a matter of perspective. I recall a headline from the Times of London when I was a kid, "70 degrees again tomorrow - No relief in sight."

St. Croix Premier - I shoulda listened to Muddy
In over 40 years of bass fishing I have never had this problem before.

SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder)
It's nothing new. My poor wife used to just about go crazy with it.

SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder)
I lived in Kentucky for the first 35 years of my life and suffered horribly from SAD. I suffered until I learned how to ski. I got to the point where I really looked forward to January and February. I live in Florida now. The sunshine, relatively warm weather that allows me to be active all year, and a prescription for Prozac keep me from eating myself into oblivion during the winter.

St. Croix Premier - I shoulda listened to Muddy
I bought a couple of St. Croix Premier rods this year in spite of Muddy telling of problems with the guide inserts falling out. I love the rods, but yesterday the insert in the tip of one of the rods fell out. :'(

Wish me luck.

Dallas and Jim story
Our club had its Top Ten tournament a couple of weeks ago. The top ten members in point standings at the end of the year fished a one day tournament on Lake Seminole. They could each have a guest fishing with them but, of course, the guest was just fishing for fun. When it came time to weigh in Dallas had about 18 pounds to win it. His guest, Jim, had 22 pounds. Jim told the story that after he caught several good fish from the small area where they had located the fish he got to wondering if he was hurting Dallas' chances of winning. He didn't have to wonder very long. Dallas raised the seat on his Ranger and pulled out a .357 and laid it on the seat. Jim, he said, I think it's time you had a cup of coffee. ;D Dallas with one of his fish: Jim with a couple of good ones:
