  1. Hey JCRZY. I just bought a bass boat. I am looking for people to fish with especially since I have the summer off (best part about teaching). We'll have to hit the Potomac up.
  2. a buddy and I fished the grass near pohick on Sunday. We did well. 5 fish for around 15-16lbs. Largest was 4.5.
  3. just picked up a 565. it's a great unit. Got mine on eBay for 175 new shipped.
  4. I found mine on Craigslist. You should also check eBay and your local newspaper. Nada.com is also useful for pricing once you find a boat you like. Don't rush it. Really take your time and buy exactly what you want. Good luck.
  5. used Ranger all the way!!!
  6. I would think all day. You can buy a battery tester for around $10. Take one with you next time you to make sure you enough power to make it back.
  7. that is sweet. how tough was the install?
  8. great points! I went ahead and ordered the frame mount kit. Peace of mind I suppose. Thanks.
  9. I found another place that will clean the carbs. He estimated 4 hours at $85 an hour. So around $340 total. Sound good??? I thought about doing it myself but I really don't feel comfortable.
  10. yea, i think its carbs too. it sat for over a year. I spoke to mechanic today. He said the cleaning kits cost $17 a piece (x6) and labor charge of $75 (x2 hours). Good deal???
  11. another forum suggested the throttle roller arm adjustment. Any thoughts?
  12. Hello all. I finally took my new/used ranger out tonight. I had a horrible time getting her going. She cranks and turns over. She will idle ok. The minute I start giving her gas she dies. This continued for about 30-45 mins. Finally got her going. Ran her for about 30 mins. She feels very jumpy. Give her gas and no response... 7-10 seconds later she jumps. We shut her down and tried to start her again and the same thing happened again. Very difficult to get her going. Before buying the boat I had a mechanic come and check everything. Compressions checked out. fluids looked good. She started up (w/ muffs) and ran well. So what gives??? I changed the spark plugs (as directed). I think it could be the fuel line, throttle, or vro. Any of those fit the symptoms??? I think fuel line b/c "ball pump" never stays hard. Please give me ideas. I am very frustrated being that this a first bass boat for me.
  13. I am in the market for 2 fish finders. I would like one w/ gps for the console and the other w/o gps for the front. Ideally, I would like to spend around 600 for the gps and 200-300 for the other. Any ideas?
  14. picked her up tonight...i don't think im sleepin tonight!!!
  15. Yes you can fine a boat in the price range. It will take a bit of searching but they are around. I used Craigslist, newspapers and ebay. I just bought an 86' ranger 370v w/ a 93' 150hp faststrike for well below 5k. It took me around 6 weeks of searching. Don't settle. Use nada.com to check prices out. If someone list the boat much higher than they suggest mention nada's quote. Usually that is enough to get the price down. I would also suggest getting a mechanic to come out and check the engine and boat out. I was very reluctant to pay the money for one myself but in hindsight it is well worth it for peace of mind alone. Good luck. Ask lots of questions on forums too.
  16. thats sweet looking. that should fly too! what speed have you clocked her at?
  17. a classic...86' Ranger 370v w/ a 93' 150hp faststrike!!!
  18. So I am new owner of a ranger boat. My truck is rated to tow items up to 5000lbs. My factory installed hitch is installed via the bumper. The bumper also states the rating up to 5000 lbs. I realize a hitch attached on the frame is ideal but will this suffice???
  19. My gut is saying the same. I have a buddy w/ a nitro who will assist me in learning the ropes. I must admit the boat is quite intimidating. I have Toyota truck which is rated for 5000lbs. So I should be fine in that department.
