Strangest Bait You Have ever caught fish with.
I've caught at least 15 - 3" catfish and 1st year largemouth on a bare hook after throwing in a 20 lb. bag of "Ole Roy". We were testing a strip pit pond, and I thought I'd have a little fun while I was waiting.

tungsten? fad?
I bought 1 tungsten weight, and compared it side by side with a stainless steel weight of the same weight. I couldn't tell the difference. It's all hype. The only place where people might see a difference is where they are using a cheap rod with braid. Although, at that point it's like putting lipstick on a pig. Why pay $5 for a weight when you have a $50 reel and $40 rod? The weight feels no different to me than a stainless steel weight, and I fish everything from calm waters to heavy current. Might vote = All hype!!!

Sled Creek right off of Kentucky Dam Village is where it's at during the Spawn. I'll be there!

Best Bass Fishing State?
Ooh...I smell something that doesn't remind me of rose petals... The "2nd largest" smallmouth EVER caught held the title of The World Record for many years while David Hayes' fish was disputed. The WR is 11 lb 15 oz, the next largest is 10 lbs 14 oz. Both fish were caught at Dale Hollow. Look at the traffic on Dale Hollow!

Santa Bait Monkey
What'd you do? Remove the bearings, and say "Look Honey .... this reel is really messed up. I think I need a new one!" ;D ;D I don't know where I got that excuse. It's not like I've ever used it. ;D

How to Fight your States Division of Wildlife
I don't have a problem with Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources other than the fact that they don't pay their employees enough. ;D The only problem I have had with them in the past is the 150hp limitation on Lake Malone from Memorial Day to Labor Day. It really inconveniences me to have to miss fishing on Lake Malone between these times unless I either troll or switch out my motor. The argument they use is that it "disturbs the delicate ecosystem during these times", but they know better than to try and sell that crap to me. I helped to rebuild that "ecosystem" when they were all sitting around scratching their heads, but I have to follow the rules like everyone else.

Global Warming?
I think you hit the nail on the head. It's like the Democrats and Republicans. Some believe the Theory and other's don't. There are two sides to the debate. As we sit now it's a 50/50 split. Fifty percent believe in global warming, and 50% doesn't. So, it would obviously pay off for some big named political figure to be able to revive his political backing by falling on the other side of the fence. Before you know it he begins to believe his own bull, and he has sunk into a whirlpool of misinformation. Although, he preaches it with conviction, so people think .... "He MUST be right!". Of course the Nobel Peace Prize panels will give him an award. They now have a name representing a topic they have been arguing for years that everyone knows. The Nobel Peace Prize has become as corrupt as the Miss America Pageant. Does that make sense?

Best Bass Fishing State?
I'm just glad Kentucky hasn't gotten that much publicity. ;D No offense, but I don't want a bunch of Trophy hungry fishermen tearing up my Honey Holes. I have a fisherman in my lodge that I have witnessed breaking the state record on several attempts. He has caught several 15+ lb. largemouths, and 11+ lb. smallmouth. He has photographic proof w/ digital scales visible. There is a reason why we like to see the state records stay the same since 1984. Less publicity = less traffic. So, keep fishing California, Alabama, and Texas. ;D

Global Warming?
The common ignorance of most people is that they mistake a high temperature for the month or that time of year for Global Warming. The Gulf Stream regulates a lot of temps. If you watch the Gulf Stream you will see that a lot of temperatures along that area are warmer than usual. This is not Global Warming, but rather warmer air being brought up from the Gulf and/or the Atlantic if you are in Europe. Global warming is a GLOBAL temperature change of 2 degrees or more across the board. Just because you have unseasonable temps in December doesn't mean it's GW. It just means the Gulf Stream brought warm temps to your area. In the winter you will see the opposite later in the season. The arctic current will bring down colder air, and you will have colder temps than normal in some areas.

Global Warming?
I'm a bit of a scientist, and I will have to agree that Global Warming is taking hold, but not by our doing. It is also true that 90% of scientists don't agree with Global Warming simply because the Government looks at you funny when you even mention it. A lot of grants are denied simply because of the politics involved. You don't want a black flag coming up saying you believe in Global Warming. The Big Oil companies pay Billions of dollars a year to politicians to not stir up any problems for them. Now, on the Global Warming note. I believe it will happen again, but not in our lifetime. The last major global event was around 18,000 years ago as the earth started warming its way out of the Pleistocene Ice Age. This was a time when much of Asia, North America, and Europe lay buried beneath glacial ice. Earth's climate and the biosphere have been in constant flux dominated by ice ages and glaciers for the past several million years. We are currently enjoying a temporary break from the deep freeze. Approximately every 100,000 years Earth's climate warms up temporarily. These warm periods, called interglacial periods, appear to last approximately 15,000 to 20,000 years before regressing back to a cold ice age climate. At year 18,000 and counting our current interglacial vacation from the Ice Age is much nearer its end than its beginning. We can tell these things by studies that have been done at both polls involving what are called Core Samples. These samples contain layers of ice and debris from as far back as the beginning of the last Ice Age. We can also tell what condition Earth's climate was in by studying the cells of the cores, and this gives us a lot of information to compare with today's readings. A majority of the samples to date show that the Earth is on it's 'schedule' and the climate we see in today's world isn't that much different than before. So, to sum it up. I believe the Earth will go through another Ice Age, but we will not be the cause of it. We have only been using fossil fuels for the past 80 years or so. This is hardly enough time to destroy the Earth's climate in the time alloted. A lot of scientists treat the Earth's climate as if it was fragile. I believe the total opposite. I believe the Earth is much stronger than any of us humans, and we are arrogant to believe we can control the outcome of it or change it.

Cletus Take the Reel.
That's pretty funny stuff. ;D That's Tim Hawkins. He's a hilarious Christian Comedian, and I had the time of my life at one of his shows in Louisville awhile back.

Ice Covers The Midwest
Send some of it our way! ;D We've had nothing but RAIN for the past 5 days! :-/ There's nothing worse than a 40 degree day in the pouring rain. Especially when it's supposed to snow this time of year.

I REALLY DON"T GIVE A #%$!*
I really don't see the point. The Earth will outlast any of us humans, and we are worried about what we can do to "Save the Plant" instead of finding cures to diseases that affect us. : The Earth will heal itself and replenish long after we as a species are gone. Trying to modify a species, in my opinion, is unethical. What's next? Are we going to modify human genes to weed out criminals and the mentally ill? COme on. This is getting ridiculous. All we are doing is trying to change fate, and avoid the inevitable. In the end we will be an extinct species, but Earth will survive. I think George Carlin said it best in his "Save the Planet" campaign video. You can see it on Youtube, but I won't post it since it is "R - Rated".

another rifle question
I wouldn't hunt a deer with anything smaller than a .30 caliber round. I hear guys all the time hunting with .243, but they end up chasing them a country mile in the driving rain. ;D A .20 caliber round like the ones you've mentioned are purely varmint rounds in my opinion. I hunt with a 45-70 and I use light loads for deer, and heavy loads for elk and bear. If you are interested in a shorter round then look into the .300 WSM or Winchester Short Magnum. It is the equivalent of the .300 Winchester Magnum just in a shorter casing. I believe they make several Model 70s for that cartridge. Like I said ... you can kill a deer with a .243 or .270, but your meat is going to taste like the south end of a north bound mule. If the deer runs after you shoot it you will have a gamey taste to your meat unless you soak it in milk overnight to remove the lactic acid in the muscle tissue caused by the deers natural response to run. That's the primary reason I use a 45-70 is because 99% of the time I will knock the animal down, and they won't get up. Almost all of my meat is not tainted by the gamey taste that is associated with fleeting deer.

LET'S HEAR THOSE BAIT MONKEY STORIES
Ah ..... that's a classic Bait Monkey move! You have to go back to get some line, but you aren't going to get anything else! ;D I've done that a few times myself. Next thing you know you end up spending the exact same amount of money that you did the first time. All to get some line.

LET'S HEAR THOSE BAIT MONKEY STORIES
One thing I've learned about the bait monkey is he makes you dumber than a box of rocks when he's riding your back. I went into BPS about 3 weeks ago dead set on a $150 budget. I kept throwing baits in the cart thinking to myself ..." Ok. I need one of those and those and those, but I won't get anywhere near $150 with what I have in the cart!" Wrong!!! I got up to the register thinking I only had $150 worth of stuff in my cart, and ended up ringing up $230 worth of stuff. ;D The wife kept saying that I had more than $150 worth of stuff in the cart and laughing. I should have listened to her, because He doesn't affect her like he does me. I should have listened to her!

Christmas Theft
I had them steal a big snowman out of my front yard last year. Ever since my boat was broken into I keep my 2 German SHepherds outside at night. They'll make enough noise to wake this side of town, and maybe break down the fence trying to get to anyone in the yard late at night. ;D

Gotta see this...whatta joke
I'm guilty of the Rocket Rod purchase. The step-son wanted one for an outing after he saw all the hype on T.V. I insisted that we not buy one, but the wife gave me 'the look' , so we bought it for him, and he did catch a few bluegill. It did break after about 20 casts! Somehow the line got all tied up in the spool, and I didn't have the patience to fix it so in to the garbage it went.

smallmouth in kentucky
Forgot to mention that the Green River at Calhoun and Livermore is another good spot for them. You can catch them at Livermore all day long when they fill the grain barges from the Purina plant there.

smallmouth in kentucky
I know of a couple of farm ponds that have plenty. Then there's Daviess COunty Fish and Game, but you have to be a member. I'm surprised you haven't pulled any out of the Ohio.

injurys
I keep seeing these "falling off trailer" stories. Get some Teva River Sandals. You won't have that problem anymore. I have never slipped off my trailer wearing these, and I swear by them. They stick to slippery, moss covered rocks for God's sake. I think they can handle slick painted metal.

Why we should all carry.
That just goes to show that conceal and carry permits are a good thing. I have mine here in Kentucky and I carry a Glock G36 in 45 Auto. Thank God I have never had to use it, but it's there if I need it. If the man in the story had never been there they could have lost every one of the customers. When something like this goes down you don't have a lot of time to think. Instinct takes over, and that is where a lot of practice pays off.

Bigfoot real?
WOW!!! Six figure salaries, I guess I'm in the wrong sector of the Forestry/Biology Division in West Virginia. I guess I need to ask for a raise, seems I'm not getting paid what I'm worth. : I guess not! ;D I feel sorry for public servants. How far apart are the pictures on the trail cam? What are the time frames? Forget about frame speed, heres an interesting question If the National Average salary for Resource Management in the Private Sector is around 48,000 per year and the avg entry level salary is 33,0000 per year who is paying you six figures for what many of the most educated and experienced int the field barely get into the upper 80's ?You have a very benevolent boss I guess it all depends on who you know! I get paid between $120k and $160k a year depending on the workload and grants. We do contract work for the Federal Government and the State, and as you all know private contractors get paid 3X what Federal employees do. A perfect example is Blackwater USA versus the US Military. When I left the Corps I was getting paid around $3700 a month as an O-2. If I were working for a private contractor I could make up to $12k a month doing the same job. Oh ... by the way .... you can't always find accurate statistics on the internet.

BPS JohnnyMorris Rods on sale/recoil guides good?
The guys that are going to debate it don't own Johnny Morris Elite rods. ;D Only people who own them can comment. ;D
