  1. from everyone I've spoken with, I've heard that Powder Mill can be a very tough place to pull in numbers from. Especially because it's attached to the Contoocook River, it just gives them one more place to go. I'm gonna hit it up this weekend using your map and try to figure it out as well. I'll let you know ASAP what I find. And as long as you're in the area, you should hit up Otter Lake in Greenfield. I've heard there are a LOT of fish there.
  2. Well, I got out yesterday afternoon, and it was amazing. I went out a little pond in Newbury, and the fish were waiting for me. I must have caught about 20-30 fish in about 3 hours. Most of them were around a pound, but I caught a couple 2 pounders. All the fish were shallow near cover of some sort. The water temp must have been close to 70 in the shallows. There were bass cruising everywhere, and they were pretty aggressive for a jig or senko, but would not hit a jerkbait. Good times!
  3. I'm going to pass on battling the wind today, but tomorrow looks like it will be far less windy, and a lot cooler. And its NEVER a waste of time fishing. Only working is a waste of time.
  4. Yeah, the black flies are brutal right now. I remember some NH shirt from a long time ago that said: "Black Flies don't bite, they SUCK!"
  5. I went out today for a couple hours after work. It was a little breezy, and the black flies are out in force. I managed to catch 2 smalleis, a big pickeral and a huge yellow perch. This perch must have gone almost two pounds. It was so big I considered keeping it (I've heard they are tasty!). I had forgot my camera at home or I would have taken a picture. Not bad for a couple hours.
  6. I'm thinking that even with the warmer water temps, the majority of the fish are still waiting to move in. I'm not sure if its forage related or moon phase related, or both, but it seems like there are no fish in the shallows where I'm fishing. All the fish I've caught have been in almost 10+ feet of water. Of course, our water temps are still in the low 50's, so I"m not expecting a huge rush just yet. But, it warming up fast all of a sudden. Soon enough!
  7. no problem at all UNHbass!!!!
  8. It's tough, we are right on the line between southern NH and central NH. And it's hard watching the "A Shoutout to all NH fisherman" thread starting to lose steam after three seasons fishing. That's why I post in that thread most of the time.
  9. WOW!! NICE fish everyone! That's a monster wagn! You too Bass Tard! I'm not sure if we really fall into the "southern NH" catergoy here in the Hillsboro area, but I'll post my pic here too. A nice 3lb'er caught this AM on the jig(KVD swim jig in green pumpkin) in deep water. Water temp was 53ish Keep it up everyone!
  10. Nice job everyone!! and I've never fished powder mill pond, but I have always wanted to. The problem I'm having is that I keep hearing only so so reports from those that have fished it. Thanks Dean,. Here's a couple more from Saturday:
  11. Went out again today. Caugth 5 nice smallies, but one came off. They were in a little deeper water than yesterday, and a differnet side of the lake. smallies confuse the hell outta me.
  12. I used a new finesse presentation yesterday, and it worked great. small 3 inch white powergrub on a 1/16th oz jig head. I fished it around boulders in pretty deep water. Did not lose any, even with an exposed hook. It seemed to catch the ones that were not ready for my jerkbait.
  13. Have any of you guys hit Horseshoe Pond in Merrimack yet? I hear it's got good bass.
  14. I live on a little lake called Emerald Lake or Gould Pond (it's got two different names, and people use both) in Hillsboro. It's in Clarks and it's real easy to get to. Good launch, and it's also stocked with trout. I think if you head over to Pawtuckaway State park, there are also smallmouth in there. Good sized ones from what I've heard. If you've never caught a smallie, you are in for a real treat. I'd say they fight MUCH harder than a LM. A 1 pound smallie can feel like a 3 pound LM. But, they can be harder to catch sometimes.
  15. Had a good day today in the canoe. Caught 4 smallies all aound 2.5 pounds. Caught 3 on a white powergrub on a 1/16th oz jig head and the LC slim shad. All fish were caught off off rock points adjacnt to deep water and large boulders. They are moving up!! Yahoo!
  16. I smartened up yesterday and went trout fishing. Caught 2 nice rainbows in the contoocook with a cheap rainbow trout imitation spinner. It felt REALLY nice to have a fish going nuts at the end of my line. Pretty fish, but I really want to catch some smallies. Gonna give it another shot tonight. Good luck everyone. edited to add: Went to the smallie spot and the wind was howling. It was tough fishing, but I managed a nice 2.5 pound smallie off a point with a Lucky Craft Slim Shad in a shiner pattern. Here's a shot:
  17. Went out yesterday to my local hotspot to a grand total of zero fish. > I fished deep, shallow and middle. Threw my entire tackle box at them, but nothing. Only saw one fish, a yellow perch cruising the shallows. I'm not sure what the water temp was, but I'd have to guess in the mid 40's. Oh well, hopefully today and tomorrows really warm temps will wake them up and start them moving in.
  18. I've heard from a very reliable source that the Merrimack can be excellent bass fishing if you fish from Sewalll Falls Dam launch in Concord. I'm gonna try it on the 4th of July this year. I'm hitting my local LM honey hole today. Hopefully I'll have pics and a report later on. Tight lines y'all!
  19. you can also order it online from northern bass supply or amazon.com. It's def the bible of NH fishing.
  20. Last year I was fishing my favorite place (it's whee I am in my profile photo) and came upone someone who owned a house on the lake. They were fly fishing from a boat, and when the person in the front got a fish to bite, the guy in the back would shoot it with a shotgun. Yeah, I'm not kidding. Not only were they being idiots for killing fish, they were far more stupid for shooting the gun directly at the water. I asked them to stop, and got laughed at. I'm wondering if they laughed at the Fish and Game Warden at their door the next morning. I've never seen that boat or those people again. I was amazed at their stupidity. I was more amazed I never thought to pull out my cell phone and take a video of it.
  21. Really nice fish!!!! I'd say yours was around 5.5 and hers is around 4.5-5. Nice job!
  22. I went and tossed a couple shore casts out, but I did not have any luck (but did not really expect it). I think I'm gonna try and get out in the canoe either later today or tomorrow at my smallie spot. Good luck everyone! edited to add: I went out in the canoe for a couple hoursyesterday. The wind was blowing so hard I really could not fish very effectively, but it was a lot of fun being out there. No luck, but the water was only in the high 30's, so I realy did not expect any. Hopefully this weekend. Good luck!
