I've been eyeballing these for awhile now and was hoping for some user input. I don't have the opportunity to handle these rods and have two models I'm looking at in particular. First is the 7'3' Amistad. I was wondering if this is a super stiff rod, like broom stick stiff and also is it a true heavy powered rod? Secondly is the weightless worm rod. I assume it handles weightless worms, but was wondering about other soft plastic rigs like light T-rigs and possibly drop shots? Any input would be appreciated.

I own that worm rod and use it for Texas rigging.

I have both rods you are asking about. The amistad is by far my favorite Cara I own. I bought it for pitching in bushes and throwing big jigs on ledges. It does both equally well. It is a true heavy rod. During the summer I regularly set the hook on fish 30+ yards away and rarely get a poor hookset.

The weightless worm I use for spinnerbait, jerkbait, topwater and flukes. I tried it for light jigs and honestly didn't like that techique for the rod.

I have a Micro in the finesse jig. I love it and use it for most of my plastic stuff. Sometimes you can tell if a fish is just looking at it!

Thanks for the replies. I had a chance when I was at lake fork late last month to fish with a couple lowrider rods. I was extremely surprised how sensitive they were. I can only imagine how good the Cara is

What is the going price for a cara, a local surplus store had a couple of 6'6" medium casting rods for $119 and i was wondering if that was a good deal or not

The Amistad is an awesome rod and I would not call it a broom stick but it has more then enough backbone. The Wesightless worm rod is AWESOME!! Not only does it fish weightless soft plastics well but it is also my favorite jerk bait rod as well.

The Amistad is a beast! Buy that thang and never look back...

And nocluefisher, Caras are normally $200 rods, so $119 is a pretty darn good deal. I'd buy one at that price and if you dont like it you could probably resell it and get your money back on it.

I have 4 cara's and I love them all. The amistad is my favorite. like others have said, it is stiff, but it has a nice tip on it to really fling and skip a jig. it's very well balanced too

You can't go wrong with any of the cara's they truely well built and super sensitive rods. i love both those models but i have to disagree entirely on the throwing any kind of worm on the weightless worm rod.. maybe a drop shot or shakey head but thats it. But the weightless worm rod is one of the finest square bill and jerkbait rods ive ever used
