KVD 1.0- How do you cast it on a baitcaster? It's SOOO Light I can only get it a few feet. Should I try spinning gear?

I throw them a mile with ease on a 7'mhm/curado51. What ree/rod are you using?

  • Super User

It's all about the rod on that bait. I throw them on a Loomis CBR843 with zero issue. You've got to have a rod that will load those baits effectively.

Just use a spinning rod. Its not cool on this board to do, but it works much better than a BC ever will.

No issues with a JMCarbonlite on a Smoke7'MF. Their weight is like .260oz. It wouldnt hurt to practice more at least to help improve yourself unless your gear is totally out of range.

I use them with a Dobyns 705CB Glass and either a Curado 200DPV or a Citica 200E loaded with 12 pound Yo-Zuri Hybrid. I use to have fluoro on that rod, but it is much, much easier to cast lighter lures with the co-poly. A 704 would be a bit more ideal, but what I've got works.

I was using a 7'6 Medium heavy BPS carbonlight with 10 pound P-Line Floroclear

Sounds like you're using a bit too much rod.

I have thrown one on my 7' M power, fast action St Croix Legend Tournament with a Curado 51E and 20lb braid and can cast it as far as I need to. With the same set up I can launch 1.5's any where I want them, and just spool myself with a 2.5

I'm using a 7' M/F Cabelas Prodigy spinning rod with a Quantum Catalyst PTi-B20 with 20# Power Pro or 6# Cabelas Flouro and have no problem launching them.

I use a 6'6" or 7' medium rod, Pinnacle Matrix (the old one not the new POS) and 12lb big game, it flies just fine, and catches too.

A 7' M fast action st. croix cast those and the RC .05's just fine for me. A lighter tipped rod may load a bit better, but I'm throwng these baits around wood mostly and don't want to sacrifice power.

Definitely too stiff of a rod for throwing light baits. I would also switch to 8lb mono if you can. I like a medium rod, with a moderate action for cranks.

I use spinning for light cranks. Really what's the point trying to use a BC for everything. In the end for me it's way more efficient using spinning for little cranks.
