Whats everyones favorite gear ratio when fishing with cranks? a quick "gear ration 101" would help me out so i understand it a little more.

You want a lower gear ratio in the 4's or 5's to 1

I like my 4's but lately I've used some high quality daiwa closed face reels an they have 3 ratio, I've had my best Crankbait results on the daiwa closed face reels, They run about 60-70$

Anything that pulls anywhere from 19 to 23 inches per turn.

I use a 6.3:1 which is 25 or 26 IPT (inches per turn) for most of my cranking, the onlt time I use a 5.4:1 is for deep cranking. For jigs and plastics I use a 7.1:1, or any bait that I'm using the rod to move the bait, the high speed makes it easier to pick up slack in the line after you move the bait with the rod. I do like to use the high speed reel for spinnerbait too when I'm burning them, I can really get the bait moving and keep it near the top without fatigue.

I like a 5:4:1 or a 5:3:1 (which ever I can find in a left handed reel) for deep diving crank baits, and a 6:3:1 for just about everything else. On occasion I will use a burner for lipless cranks.

Im not into them slower ratios, i like the 6:2:1 and 6:4:1 area for my crank baiting.

I throw mine on a 6.4:1. Just works for me.

Same here I just crank slower. For me its alot easier to slow down then to speed up.

It used to be, you wanted a "high speed" 5:1 reel for cranking. Now you have to buy s slow 5:1 reel for it, lol.

Best bang for your buck,tournament pro is my go to for cranking, compares to the Chronarch in price $199,Can be had for $170 if you look around, but in my opionion is much for of a reel.
