somewhere over 6 and under 8... Or so I would guess. That bottom jaw looks like she's got a huge mouth.

IMO, the rod would've been a better reference.

Buy some scales. Sure makes it a lot better "knowing" what a fish weighed as opposed to "guessing" what it "might" weigh.

You always have your fishing line to measure bass with; run the line from the tip of the closed jaw to the center of the tail, cut it and keep it. Then run the same piece of line around the bass at the widest area with the dorsal lin down and tie a simple overhand knot where the line comes together to indicate the girth. Save the line in your pocket and measure it later. Length X length X girth divided by 1200 = weight. Better then trying to make a wild guess later.

There isn't any way to determine what your bass weighed from the photo.

I'm talking about a small set of berkley scales or something like that, not a grocery store vegetable scale set.

4 1/2-6lbs. Really hard to tell from that picture but it isn't any wider than your hat and maybe twice as long, I'd guess in the 20-22 inch range maybe 23". No matter what it's a nice fish and congrats on the new PB!

I thought about doing that but I had the fish out of the water longer than I wanted to, so I snapped the photo and got her back into the water. Better to guess at a weight than let a beautiful fish like this die. When she was laying flat next to my rod I picked a mark on it and measured that when I got back to the hotel. It was 23.5" long at least.

Okay, I give up. Comparing a 4" set of scales to a 18' boat, I can't compete. One thing I never go fishing without is a set of scales. I want to know for sure what a fish weighs, I don' want to guess. Especially if I am guessing at my PB.

A trick I use to measure when in a pinch is my shoe. Or you can use your cork if you know how long the handle is and you have room to lay your rod down. A lot of times when bank fishing all I carry is a empty pack of plastics with a hand full of lures and maybe a pair of pliers.

Doesn't matter what it weighs, it's a nice fish. Good on you for getting some fishing in on a work trip. I'd guess a little south of 5, but if she's got a gut it'd probably get her north. But really, specific weight doesn't matter, I'm sure the memory is plenty for you.

Its impossible to tell with just a picture, I have pictures of 4 lbers that look like 6 and 9 lbers that look like 7lbs at most. Neverheless, I would guess between 5-6lbs from the picture.

I'd say roughly 6 lbs.

I'm guessing 6 minimum and possibly 7lbs... the length of your hat is approx. 10" and width is 6 to 7" so if you do the math or NOT, she's a GOOD'UN and Congrats a fine new PB!!!

Average girth bass that is 23.5" long (17.5" girth) should about 8 lbs!
