Trolling Motor Losing Power?

Featured Replies

Have a minkota 30lb for my crawdad. It seems to have lost some of it power since I bought the boat 3 years ago.

Any thoughts on what it could be? Battery or Motor? Took off the prop & cleaned it out, battery is maybe 4 years old?

Thanks for nay help!

Maybe it's time to replace the battery.

i would say battery replacement time.

It maybe several things but I would start by cleaning all the contacts first. This should help but the battery is most likely getting weak.

Fully charge your battery, and then have it tested. If you have an Interstate dealer in your area they will put a load test on it at no cost to you. Some of the auto parts stores like NAPA, Auto Zone, Auto Palace etc., will probably test it as well. Check with them first.

Hit it, that's what works with my Husqvarna. Lol.

So, finally got a new battery. But, still low on power? Anything else I could check on trolling motor before I go out & buy a new one?

If you have a repair shop they should be able to fix it way cheaper than a new one. It may just need new brushes.

Did you use emery paper on all the connections and get them bright and shiny?
