I’m bringing a black/blue hair jig, perch colored blade bait, and not much else.

 

If sucessful, that’ll get me fish from MA waters in 10 of 12 months this year w/o drilling a hole in the ice.

I ordered a couple hair jigs and stuff from the TW black friday sale but it's not supposed to get here until next week sometime so I probably won't be fishing this weekend, but we'll see.

good luck! i fished it just before sunset last weekend! water as 48 marked something deep but didnt get anything

Made it to Hedges around lunch time.  Didn't have any more black/blue hair jigs, so I went with 1/4 oz. brown/orange.

 

Shortly after launch I landed a big fat yellow perch on my perch blade bait.  Four more came to the boat in the next few minutes.  One fatty was 13" long.  I was in 18' but casting towards shore and letting the blade bait sink to 10' +-.  

 

I moved around some and struck out with a green/red Hula Grub on a drop shot so I switched to the jig.  Lowe and behold I pulled in a nice perch on it.  Crazy thing is, I've caught more non-bass on jigs than bass when using them - what's up with that?.  Worked a couple different jerk baits for a while without a nibble.

 

Although I couldn't find any smallies, the perch were active and helped me achieve my goal of MA fish in 10/12 months without drilling any holes in ice.

 

Water temps were 47.x when I arrived and 46.x when I left.

 

Now I have to catch at least one more bass before New Years....

we can make that happen!!  got some coldwater spots that you will deff get that job done!  ill be out this weekend!! idk where to go tomorrow! ill have to see what the wind is doing! 

planning a trip to old faithful in a few weeks. Hopefully there will not be any ice yet... the drop shot is gonna kill em.Trying to get to 750 labs for the year, only at 600 ish so i only need three days to do it!

Not trying to, if you want to meet up, i can show you the lake I fish, it is truly one of a kind, and i hope you like drop shotting (and catching 12" bass all day long).

got out both days! saturday went in the yak to a new pond in wareham, water temps started out fishing jerkbaits, small plastic swimbaits and blades. only one pickerel i caught early, fished the drop offs with out any action, pond was deep and weedy.  deepest was 22 feet. on they way back i decided to fish a flat with a very steep drop! last spot of the day, immediately got fish! caught 2 largemouth and a ton of pickerel, saw some surface action,   got fish here on jerbaits, and weedless plastics

yesterday got a late start, hungoover was going to go to my buddies house to watch the game but his dog got sick and puked all over the house. so i went fishin. caught a pickerel thats it

 

I've been getting out somewhere about once a weekend.  Interesting reading about the success some of you have been having with a hair jig.  I haven't fished one yet- most of my late season success has been with a curly tailed grub slow rolled around deeper water with remaining weeds.  I was catching them on suspending jerks, slow spinnerbaits and paddletail swimbaits but that really seemed to slow once water temps started to approach 50 degrees.  Haven't been exactly killing it since but I've gotten a few on grubs and blade baits since the water has dropped into the 40s. Just enough action to keep me interested and getting out there.  I also recently installed a Humminbird helix 7 SI on my kayak too so that's been fun to play around with and get used to.

 

Been on a couple successful saltwater voyages recently-  went out Tautog fishing thanksgiving morning- me and my two buddies limited out with 18 keepers before 11am- headed back in for the thanksgiving meal-  fun day.  

 

 

 

Saturday we went out for a little tuna hunting... things were pretty slow but around 1:30pm one hit.. and it was a giant..  we had it in the boat about an hour and a half later.  96" and 550lbs.  

 

 

 

 

It was no 5lb smallmouth but I guess it put up a decent fight...

That's the FISH OF THE YEAR for sure!

 

Got out to Plymouth for some late 2017 SMB hunting.  Launched around 1:00 and left at dusk.  I managed two good SMB and two White Perch, one of which was 1-10.  A 3/4 oz chrome Binsky was all I needed today.

 

Water temps were 46.x  

 

If this is my last trip out for '17.... it's a good way to end the year...

2107?  Where'd the last century go?  I've heard time flies when you're having fun, but this is incredible.

I got my order of winter baits, some hair jigs, trailers, ballheads, grubs, and a few blade baits. Anybody thinking of going out this weekend? I was hoping to try out some of this stuff but I only learned today how much snow we were actually supposed to get so it probably isn't happening for me.

how do you guys like to fish blade baits? I have the perfect bodies of water to learn I think, both at home and in MA, deep clear water with a lot of rock. No clue how to fish em or what color or rod or anything. Advice is appreciated.

silver or gold! 1/4 and 1/2, i use medium action rod 8-10lb floro! slow life the blade! so you cast out! let it hit bottom! lift till you feel it vibrate! let it fall! pause there then repeat! the cadence of the lift and pause you need to find out on the water!  some times dragging it over the bottom works!  its a killer cold water bait!!

Yeah- my buddy has a boat that he trailers out of sandwich, we launched at Pamet, little sketchy at low tide this time of year.. Tuna hit a live lined mackerel somewhere along the SE corner of the bank, we drifted away from the pack of boats into a bit of deeper water, I think we were in about 110' FOW when the fish hit.  It was pretty slow out there for everyone I think... we didn't see anyone else hook up while we were out there. 

got out saturday in the storm the bite SUCKED!!! fished plymouth. marked fish down deep 20-40 feet saw some fish suspended. paddled to a back cove water was colder 45, got a fat pickerel on a jerkbait and missed a yellow perch!  tried fishing deep humps couldnt get anything on blades or hair jigs! water temps 45-47.  

If it’s not too windy and the rain holds off I might try to get out somewhere in Plymouth...  good thing my Tundra gets such great gas mileage ....

if it doesn't warm back up I don't think I'll be going out again this year. This weeks forecast looks like some ice-making to me at least in my area. I wouldn't be surprised to see A1 solid enough to fish before new years.
