they tried to sell me that orange custom Pro

I bought a couple, on sale, last year. If they were 20% off at the show, they were well worth it. They're light, cast like a dream, and their braking system works great in windy conditions. I wouldn't pay $300 for it with Shimano's SLX DC on the market.

If you were talking to an older guy with a pro fisherman's jersey, it was likely the pro Ben's Tackle Shack sponsors.

Finally got my goal bass, I’ve been hunting this fish for years. Countless hours and heart breaks.  I started out waking up at 430 am, feeling like crap, mixture of expired cheese and a couple of be

Hmmm... you have any Daiwa SV reels to compare it to?

And with all that control and line taming, does it choke the distance?

More than a couple..... 😉 .

Yes, when the Lews' braking system is on, some distance is lost.

Nice!

When I alked to the dudes at the lews table they tried to sell me that orange custom Pro. I had never seen it before or ever heard about the paramag breaking system. When I asked about it he couldn't really say much. So I popped it open and took a look.

Then I went on to explain it to him, from what I could deduce by examining it. I schooled this guy on his own product he was trying to sell, and he told me wrong info about another reel there that I corrected and showed him.

I must admit I'm curious about the paramag breaks, especially the pro model with the knock off SV spool. But they didnt build my confidence in it that's for sure, and definitely not for $300

And therein lies the difference between "salesman" and "technical salesman" lol

I appreciate the insight, my SVs do a great job managing line and if the lews does it better but loses distance I believe in can manage without.

I can FEEL it .... it's on the way !

I don't think early March is in the cards like recent years but maybe late March 🤞

@Saltysmalljaws lives on the Cape. He's gonna do a recon and report back. That's about as SOUTH as I can drive right now.

I dusted off the auger and headed to Plymouth. BAD NEWS - the ice was about 8" thick at both ponds I checked. @Saltysmalljaws told me mid-Cape was locked up too.

More snow is forecasted for late this weekend too..... ☹️.

  • Super User

All this snow is seriously messing with my desire to get onto the ice as well as my hiking plans lol

I thought that I could blow off the desire to try ice fishing for the first time until next winter, but with the reports of ice still being thick, I might have to hit up facebook marketplace...

Mother Nature doesn't want us to go fishing anytime soon, and since we have MORE "plenty of time" to research, clean, organize, and read BassResource .....

  • What are your plans for Spring?

  • Where are you going and what are you throwing?

  • Are you fishing with other BassResource members?

I'm going to spend more time north of the Neponset Bridge (that's the DMZ for South Shore folks) and fish NH/VT, and maybe ME more this year, throwing swimbaits and focusing more on jigs.

I would definitely like to fish with other BR members.. we’ve discussed it here before but it just hasn’t happened.

I’ve planned a couple camping/fishing trips including one to the Saint Lawrence River… pretty stoked.

Hoping to meet @Bass Junke at Norton res at some point this year. I know a few ppl, including my brother in law who have fished it over the years. I guess there are some bigger specimens dwelling in those waters

I’ve eyeballed it, may have to give it a swing.

Norton is solid. They spray for weeds and after that it can be hard to find fish IMO because it’s so shallow and there’s not much traditional structure. But there’s still some vegetated coves that can be good and a few deeper areas.

How shallow? Should I bring kayak or RT178?

You too?

Yes, ME TOO ....

Well then, plan a meetup at Norton Res in the near future (Late April/ Early May?).

I've fished it a few times and put in with a kayak near the Chinese Restaurant off of Rt140/Mansfield Ave.

I'm told ever since the spray for weeds it has not been up to its former glory.

I've never used it but there is an unimproved ramp off of Lazy Lane for the bigger boats, the parking lot is small, I've seen the bass boats on the water.

Braintree treated Sunset Lake years ago with the same result. I fish it from time to time when I can’t go far, but it’s not been the same since.

@Jigfishn10 - what color is yours?

@DogBone_384, I was alluding to something else. We’ll have to talk offline about it sometime

Can you still launch from there? I thought that restaurant sold off and got redeveloped
