Finally got my goal bass, I’ve been hunting this fish for years. Countless hours and heart breaks.  I started out waking up at 430 am, feeling like crap, mixture of expired cheese and a couple of be

New PB Alert!   Just got back from Wequaquet (air 80, water ~77). Overall, the fishing wasn't great with the water hot and bluebird skies overhead...and yet it all came down to one pitch and

@Saltysmalljaws and I did some pre-frontal damage yesterday before the rainstorm blanketed the upper-cape. Morale of the story: even in low 40dg water-temps, when the conditions line up right, these f

Goodbye Winter, Hello Summer 😎

That wind and temperatures on Tuesday / Wednesday should be like a blowtorch for the ice. Edges will be totally shot with the rising water levels and from there just need some additional wind and moderate temps to chisele through it.

I'm putting an APB out on @Mr. Aquarium . He found open water south of Boston!

adam12_aboutSection_pic4.jpg

I'll let him report later, but I had to at least let the membership know the season's here.

Found open water yesterday. First cast of the year. Ended up with 10 bass, they loved the weedless hudd, 6th sense suspending lipless and head hunter jerkbait. Felt great getting out! ITS GAME TIME

@Mr. Aquarium How do you fish the suspending lipless? Is it basically like a jerkbait where instead of twitching it you burn it for a second and then let it sit, and repeat?

I'm hoping for open water around Boston by this weekend.

I went looking for @Mr. Aquarium 's open water. I found some, but it wasn't his spot. I spent an hour hitting the accessible areas, but came up empty.

I drove around to other South Shore ponds. They were locked up. Think moving water for anything open around here. @TheSwearingAngler - you're a south shore boy, I'll bet you can figure out where to go.

Drove around Jamaica Pond yesterday after work, some of the shorelines have opened up but most of it is still iced over. A lot of the Charles by Watertown is completely open, hopefully all this wind proves @MassYak85 right with that blowtorch theory and we'll have lots of options open by the weekend.

I burned a lot of dinosaur juice reconning my Plymouth/Cape Cod spots today. I have mixed results:

  • Sunset Lake is locked up with a few inches of open shoreline.

  • Bloody Pond, Hedges, and Great Herring are locked up solid.

    • Great Herring was open along the shore where it's shallow to the left of the ramp.

  • Agawam Mill is wide open. The ramp is clean and ready to go.

  • Snake Pond is locked up with a few inches of shoreline open.

  • Mashpee-Wakeby is locked up. The ramp is supposed to be closed until mid May. There were no closure signs, nor was there any construction of any kind.

  • Santuit was covered in thin ice with some open shoreline. The ramp is under major construction. Don't bother. Santuit instituted a 15HP limit a few years ago.

  • Wequaquet is locked up. Sections of Shoot Flying Hill are still closed. The ramp is accessible from the RT 132 side with a slight detour around the Service Road.

I'll be out tomorrow. Best of luck to anyone else that gets out this weekend.

Thanks for update Dogbone. Good luck cabin fever is brutal right now.

I got the Ranger wet today. It was cloudy, fairly windy from the S/SW, and the air pressure was 30.1. Water temps were 41.x - 42.x.

I marked almost nothing and caught just as much. I'm 0/6 this year. It sure isn't the start I hoped for.

At least it was open water and I got out.

@Saltysmalljaws said LPH is open. Maybe Sunday? Who knows.

I got the Ranger wet again today, mid Cape. There were five of us on three boats. @Saltysmalljaws was with me, ReelNorthernBass from YT on another, and one of Sean's friends was solo. Between us, Sean caught one nice SMB that probably came in at 3 1/2 pounds, on a tube. The rest of us took the ZERO. This was my 7th straight skunk for 2026. I had one SMB follow my Hula Grub back to the boat.

Water temps were 38.x - 39.x. It was partly sunny most of the day and the air pressure was 30.5. Winds were light to moderate from the north.

I took the scenic route home to see if other lakes were open. Wequaquet is wide open, Mash-Wake is covered in thin ice, and everything else in the beginning of the Cape and southern Plymouth are still locked up.

Tomorrow's rain should open everything up.

I also got out for a few hours yesterday… locally I have 2 fishable ponds, I didn’t even get a sniff from a fish.

I did hook and fight several sticks. I really expected a pickerel at least.

@Saltysmalljaws and I hooked a couple fresh water clams. To bad they don't count.

I drove by Houghton's and Blue Hills res while running errands today. Houghton's was still locked up and Blue Hills had just skim ice on it.

Got humbled by the dirty water yesterday. Nothing. Not all moving up yet.

Shoutout @DogBone_384 for the scouting reports, slowly but surely all the good waters will open up.

I was able to bank fish for about 2 hours on Saturday by the entrance of the Cape; I managed to get my first bass of the year dragging a ned rig ultra slow off a wind blown point. I was completely expecting a skunk to start the year so that was a great surprise. I started 0/4 last year so getting on the board early feels nice. This weekend looks rainy but the temps in the high 40s low 50s look promising with my dry suit on.

Now is the time to get that personal best. I’ve caught many big fish in March. Biggest I’ve caught in March was a 7-10 on a jerkbait. Get out there! The next cast could be that 7 plus

I took my new Sportsman PDL Pro 120 out for the first time today. It's a lot bigger and HEAVIER than my Lure 11.5, but pedals very well. The gear ratio is different than FeelFree's Overdrive, I get 4 mph out of it with a little extra effort. It's gonna be a really good workout for while. @A-Jay would love it. It turns very well for a big kayak, and has more storage than I really need. The four rod tubes are great.

I'll have to make some adjustments as far as hauling it to and from some of my waters' launches. Right now it feels too heavy for me to get on my truck's ladder rack.

That said, I got some time on it at one of my favorite Plymouth ponds, though it wasn't my favorite today. I'm 0/8 for 2026. Water temps were 42.x, winds were light from the S/SE, and air pressure was 30.3.

I'm headed to Cape Cod with my Ranger tomorrow morning. I'm staying a week. Even though it doesn't count, I might just pick up some shiners just to get that first 'tick & pull' .

I started my week on Cape Cod this morning. ZERO #9. I saw a couple fish nose up to my jig on the Active Target, that was the only highlight. Water temps were 39.x - 41.x. Winds were 5-10 mph from the south. Air pressure was 30.1. I went to another lake but found 18 - 20 mph winds directly into the ramp. Nope.

I saw Canton was opening up. I still have to get a license…Ugh

This is the year I get more bass fishing in. I hate to say it but it’s probably been 10 years now since I was REALLY into bass fishing … like consistently bass fishing … haha
