Sunset Lake years ago

I used have some good luck there way back in the day, at some point I started seeing lots of people there with coolers full of every single thing they caught at any size, from 3 inch sunfish to American Eels to 6 inch bass.

Me and my pops stopped even trying there after everything was over harvested

Finally got my goal bass, I’ve been hunting this fish for years. Countless hours and heart breaks.  I started out waking up at 430 am, feeling like crap, mixture of expired cheese and a couple of be

New PB Alert!   Just got back from Wequaquet (air 80, water ~77). Overall, the fishing wasn't great with the water hot and bluebird skies overhead...and yet it all came down to one pitch and

@Saltysmalljaws and I did some pre-frontal damage yesterday before the rainstorm blanketed the upper-cape. Morale of the story: even in low 40dg water-temps, when the conditions line up right, these f

I had the same experience @ Blue Hills Reservoir about 10 years ago. I caught a 4_11 LMB there in 2014 and little or nothing there since.

Can you still launch from there? I thought that restaurant sold off and got redeveloped

I fished the Norton Res a few times in 2024 but not 2025, and as far as I know, one can still launch from there. When the snow/ice disappear and time permits, I'll swing by and check it out.

To take a positive out of the 4' of snow we've gotten this Winter, water levels will be back up in a month or two.

My understanding is each foot of snow is about an inch, we're still gonna be well behind up here. I'm expecting floating fish early this season

How shallow? Should I bring kayak or RT178?

Shallow enough I wouldn't jump on plane unless you really know the lake well. My dad trashed his lower end a few summers ago there.

Pond map of Norton Res

The red X is where he scraped the bottom pretty good. There's an island and point that are really only visible if the water is low.

Thank you @Jigfishn10 for the kick in the butt. Something had to get me on this thread. This is an awesome thread and the folks on here are very inspiring.

Every year I tell myself that I am going to join in on the Eastern Mass fishing reports. I think I am just an anti-social grumpy old man.

Meeting up with everyone sounds great. I'd be up for anything in Mass. Norton is a pretty good place to start.

Everything @MassYak85 said is spot on. You can pretty much sight fish the whole place. I stand and "paddleboard" around. I fish there about 10 times a year, always see bass boats there. I don't know how they do it. It is scary shallow in the most random spots.

I can't launch from the Chinese restaurant. The boat ramp Juniper St off of Reservoir Rd. is the way to go. Open dawn to dusk. I have never seen the ramp actually fill up. I am usually there on a Saturday.

I don't catch a lot of fish but I do catch nice fish at Norton.

It's official: Snow accumulations are 41" for my city and I am still digging myself out. On the bright side, I'm getting my arms ready for paddling the kayak ;)

I'm guessing Fall River

I was talking to my BIL the other day, and he said that you can still launch at the restaurant and also said the same thing about the ramp on Juniper St that @Bass Junke mentioned above. I was looking at i-Boating map of the res which had a little more detail of the topography and it looked like that there are some deep holes by the dam. He said that it gets pretty dicey in that area so I won't be fishing there. I figured I throw a warning out to you.

@Bass Junke, I'll be reaching out to you once we get some snow melt

You'll fit right in then!

@Jigfishn10 right, so we'll talk when, July? There is 4 feet of snow in my backyard. Crazy.

So you can launch from the restaurant. The launch off of Juniper is like a beach great for launching kayaks. Not sure how it would be for trailers. All sand and not much of a slope.

When I first came to Norton I started in the deep water fished near the dam. Across from the dam is a point and a large rock formation. Lilly pads will grow there on both sides of the point. It can be productive.

Last few years I have been hanging around the islands.

I have fished around the dam. I didn't find it to be sketchy.

I've also had some success in that cove fishing worms off the drops. One of my better punching days ever was on that lake but in another spot. There was just a perfect small isolated patch of lily pads maybe 20'x40' a bunch of them were hanging under.

I'm getting so itchy to go fishing my cats offered me their flea medicine. @Saltysmalljaws - keep doing your ice out dance down the Cape!

I just read the Mashpee ramp's closed until late May for construction/improvement.

Details to follow.

Next week is going to be total war against the ice. I'm seeing close to 70 degrees on Tuesday, 60s on Monday. Spring is definitely close, and I'm getting the itch again.
