buzz baits

Featured Replies

Well heres the question. I have always been a fan of the notorious spinner bait, but once i started noticing the smallmouth a little more friskier i tossed in the buzz bait. I have had about the same amount of luck on both but wondering is the buzz just a glorified spinner. The question im wondering about is. Should i put down the buzz baits and concentrate on a better technique and presentation for the spinner bait?

Definitely not,  The buzz bait is one of the best lure choices for fishing in the fall and it can also produce bigger fish then the spinner bait most of the time.  ;) Give it a try in the fall near some kind of shallow lay down..

Get some Cavitrons and throw them.

You will not be disappointed.  ;)

You need to try the Rage Tail Shad, too!

In heavy cover, this might be a better choice.

This is not a "buzzbait", but a very close

alternative.

I agree w/ the above posts, they are in fact 2 totally different baits. There is a time, place, and pattern for both. I prefer buzz baits early in the morning and around dusk. I perfer to throw a spinner bait at night and any other time of the day when I need to fish fast to try to locate fish. I don't think either bait is seasonal and have used them all year long.

I agree with the above statements given here. And I also catch fish year round with fast and slow retrieves when conditions are right.I also have Changed out the blades for faster retrieves as well for slower applications using my spinner baits.I also do the same with my Buzz Baits changing the blades to down sizing blades in the summer for fast and furious blow ups.

Just keep in mind that, in general, a spinnerbait is a subsurface lure and a buzzbait is a topwater, thus they're two different things despite some physical similarities..

haha well in my opinion they are great complimentary baits but like every one said they are different baits. The buzzbait is a big fish and aggressive fish lure. You can start the day off with one of these bad boys covering water. This bait will generally get some quality bites and will give you an idea as to where to fish are at that day. After the fish calm down, you can come back with a spinnerbait to try to pick off some less agressive or neutral fish. Great tandem in my opinion

I DONT USE THEM

Try the 3/8 oz Cavitron black on black,

it's my favorite.

Ive got 20 of them in my boat at all times-Different sizes to adjust for the conditions such as wind-bait size -chop of the water-aggressiveness of the fish-find what the fish want and give it to them
