Where do you go to have your reels maintained? I don't know too much about the internals but I have a few that I'd like someone knowledgeable to look at and make sure they stay in good working order. Upgrading bearings and such could be a nice option, too.

You'd probably be fine with a <$20 cleaning.

The first thing I would consider is repair or even a cleaning worth spending the money, if it's a "disposable" I'd just replace it with new one and be done with it.

For me it's spinning gear for all freshwater and 99% of my saltwater fishing. I only get something fixed if it's broken or needs an adjustment I can't do on my own. My freshwater reels have never been serviced, a drop of oil and they still operate like new, I really give these reels no attention.

Saltwater reels are different story, the elements can play havoc on your gear, not to mention the power some of the fish have, things can break or not function properly. In those case the reels get repaired either local or by the mfg. If my reels are operating just fine I will not have them cleaned just for the heck of it, previous attempts have led me to not take that tact anymore. In the past I have sent some in for a cleaning, whether it be the mfg or local repair shop and some of the reels came back poorer than I sent them in.

I prefer having most new reels serviced before I fish them. I recently sent two of mine,

a Curado 200E and a 50E, to http://www.delawarevalleytackle.com/ I think you will notice

a significant improvement in performance from reels that are serviced annually. In addition

to the standard clean & lube, I kicked it up a notch and had the bearings upgraded, although

that was not really necessary. At any rate, the Curados think they are Core!

I ordered 2 new Cores and 2 new Curados One 51 and a 200E. I will be sending all three in very shortly to him I spoke to him over the phone I feel very comfortable dealing with DVT. Thanks for all your help RW you have made my life a lot easier.
