Fishing wacky style with a pegged weight.

Featured Replies

Instead of using a jig head to fish wacky style, has anyone used a circle hook and pegged a weight to the hook. Also when fishing wacky style, is there a weight limit that should not be exceeded?

If I use a weight, I use a 1/8 oz keel hook.  Any more than that really starts to kill the action, which is the main reason why a wacky rig works.

I occasionally use a weight but I don't peg it.

I have not done it that way, but it sounds like a great idea. I often put a split shot on the hook, near the eye. I  have also used  jigs up to 5/16 oz with good success in windy conditions. Thanks for the post.

Add the weight above the swivel ;)

1/32 weight for wacky in the summer.

If you want more weight, you might as well throw the Flick Shake using a jig head.

I want a slow fall when fishing wacky so the 1/32 is usually the heaviest I will go.  ;)

Why any extra weight at all ??  I go as light as possible, no swivel and a light wire hook.

Rate of fall triggers bites  ;)

You can also use a circle hook with a splitshot just above the hook.

When I don't use a weight I have a hard time judgeing what the bait is doing.

I don't use a circle hook, and I don't peg a sliding weight, but I do use the pinch on bullet weights, in something like 3/32 just to get the fall rate up.
