I completely agree with you on this. When I go online and read the news from my local newspaper and television stations I just shake my head at the number of errors I notice. Making mistakes while posting on a forum is one thing, but I expect a lot more from people who are paid to write. I guess proofreading and editing are lost arts.

My theory is that they just don't care anymore. Everyone's cutting costs, probably few notice the errors and even fewer complain about them, so where's there incentive to do it right like they did in the old days?

(Just kidding around, I know it should be "their", not "there.")

Don't you mean "...for every time..." and "... could be misused...?"

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who is mildly irritated by all the spelling and grammatical errors so commonly seen on this and other internet forums.

One that I see often is the misspelling of "definitely" or "definite", often spelled "definately" or "definate". Even the spellchecker catches that one.

Okay, me. Spell Check doesn't care witch word you use as long as it is spelt correctly.

How many times have we seen that one on here? It always makes for a good joke for the first coupe people that catch the mistake though. I know my spelling and grammar aren't great but I do my best because it irritates me to see misused or misspelled words. Your and you're, to and too, and they're, there, and their are the ones that bug me the most. I can let that stuff go just as long as no one is using text speak. Every time I try to read something written in text speak I can feel brain cells dying, u no wat I mean X)

"Your" and "You're". It always drives me crazy when people use these wrong.

My brother-in-law was arguing with someone on Facebook one time. The person he was arguing with said "Your an idiot." to him...it was all I could do not to reply to the post and say, "No, YOU'RE an idiot because you don't know the difference between YOUR and YOU'RE!"

Another fun one for me is when I hear someone say, "I could care less.". I always want to reply with, "Oh? How much less could you care? Or did you mean, I COULDN'T care less? Because that is the correct way to say it."

Technically, the phrase, "I could care less" could be correct. I've always viewed this as a way of being overly sarcastic in saying that one could possibly care even less than they do and that the other person is lucky that they even care as much as they do, even though it appears that they actually do not. I'm sure most people who say this aren't actually meaning it that way, but it is possible. It's also possible that I look too deeply into things for meaning that isn't really there. I give people too much credit for intelligence at times as well.
