That's Where I Was!

Was at work when the 1st plane hit. We all thought is was some kind of accident, and were trying to get on CNN online which overload the company firewall. Ended up calling my Parents to find out what happened. I was talking to my Dad when I heard my Mom say "Be Quiet". That is when the 2nd plane hit.

Back then I worked next to the airport, and the thing I will never forget is how quiet it was outside when they grounded all of the commerical flights. That was the eeriest quiet that I have ever heard.

Was at my 7th day of work right out of college in Rahway, NJ. Some co-workers and I were able to see the towers burning from our parking deck.

It was that day that made up my mind early bout being in the military and here I sit typing this over seas. We had a 5K run for it last night it was the biggest turn out iv ever seen we do 2 a month the whole base minus 1 platoon working gates and towers ran it. That platoon did it after shift though in formation.

Another reason why I have alot of respect for you.

Thanks

I remember the days following that day, when all planes were grounded...except the F-15's standing guard over the city. Very, very surreal situation.

When they finally lifted the no fly they didn't tell the news agency's right away. We were traveling on the overpass when a 747 came by low to land at the airport. The pucker factor went up on that one

I was at work when I heard the first reports on my truck radio. After the second plane hit, I called my wife, who was at home recovering from surgery. and told her to turn the TV on. I, and all of my co-workers, spent most of the rest of the day watching the coverage on CNN.

One thing that I remember that really angered me at the time (still does, kinda) was that a local independent gas station raised their prices to 4.99/gal. within hours of the story breaking. The state AG stepped in and ended that nonsense. Within a couple of months, the station was out of business.

I was in my first class of the morning in 9th grade, American History. My teacher got a phone call and told us what was happening and he turned the TV on for us to watch. I remember how dead quiet it was in the class room, even the back corner where all my friends and I sat and were usually clowning around. I had a huge knot in my stomach and I was so angry when they started talking about terrorist. If I'd been old enough I probably would have signed up that day.

Every single gas station within 40 miles did the same thing. I recall people saying the next day. That they waited 2-3 hours for gas.

I was just getting done with American History or world history. When a teacher came in and told us about it. By that time it was almost 9 am central time. So I didn't really see any thing other then the replays of the buildings falling and the planes hitting them.
