What color do you use for...

Featured Replies

I throw a Black/Blue Flippin Jig the majority of time but I'm curious what color trailer you guys use. I've used the Netbait Baby Paca Craw in Sapphire Blue as the trailer and had success with it, I've also used a Green Pumpkin Netbait Baby Mad Paca and had luck with it.

What color trailers do you use on a Black/Blue Flippin Jig?

i match the jig and trailer.

I found great success pairing jigs with completely different non-matching colored trailers. On a Black/Blue jig i like a Red/Orange life like craw from Charlie Worms.

For blue & black, I use a ragetail chunk craw, in watermellon blue, I think..the blue is sparkely.. ;D

Check strikekings site to be sure.

I use a black with blue fleck zoom super chunk trailer.

Jigs:

3/8oz.

Black/Blue with a Zoom Creepy Crawler Black/blue

Brown Zoom Creepy Crawler in Cinnamon/Purple or Green Pumpkin/Purple

Larger grass jigs I like the PB,&J or Camo colors with the either the Zoom Super Speed Craw in Green Pumpkin/Purple, Gene Larew craw in Green Pumpkin/Orange pinchers, or the Ultravibe Speed Craw in Black Sapphire behind the Black/Blue

I always try something different.  One of my best nights last summer was using a red jig with a white trailer.  You never know what will trigger fish on any given trip.

i like to try and match the color of the skirt

X2.

Or occasionally I will try and put on a trailer in a color that had some type of flashy flake. Especially in muddy water.

Black jig = blue trailer

Rage Tail Lobster & Rage Hawg, GYCB Flappin' Hog,

Netbaits Paca Craw & Baby Paca Craw.

Green = Watermelon w/ Black Flakes

Brown = Green Pumpkin or Alabama Craw

8-)

Oddly, my favorite combo is a black & blue jig with a green pumpkin trailer. I use a variety of trailers to change the rate of fall or size/profile of the jig.

i try to find a trailer that matches the skirt in one way but is opposite in the other way, ex. for a blake and blue skirt, ill use a brown (opposite) with blue flake (matching) trailer

I don't throw jigs, but I do use punch skirts and Gambler ko hangover skirts. For black and blue I like the Berkley chiggercraw, YUM wooly hawg tail, and Paca craw. For grn pump I use Lake Fork hyperfreaks 5", and Big Bite Baits yo mama and fighting frogs.

Thanks for all of the replies. I fish my Black/Blue jigs with either a Baby Paca Craw in Sapphire Blue or Black Shadow. I was curious what everyone uses but it sounds like I'm using about the same.

I got a few Black/Blue 1 oz. & 1/2 oz. football head jigs with Black Shadow Baby Paca Craw trailers I'm planning to fish this weekend in our opening tournament. The water temp is 48-50' F and the water is slowly falling and clearing. I expect to fish a football head jig all day very slowly fishing the points, ledges & dropoff's. Hopefully I can bring in a nice sack of fish.

I'm also trying to decide what line to use fishing these 1/2 oz. & 1 oz. jigs in 10-20 ft. of water? What do you use?

Any suggestions? :D
