I have an E5 that makes a clicking noise as I am reeling. Everything performs great on it and it doesn't bind up or have any noticable problems with it other than the sound. I have taken it apart and put it back together side by side with my E7 and I can not tell any differences between the two of them. There has to be something off, but I have no clue what it may be. I've tried adding extra lube...flushing it out and trying it out a few times with zero lube... I don't know what else to try. Anyone have any ideas?

That's what happens when you have these mass produced reels... you need to buy Brand -X.

Just kidding buy couldn't resist. I had an old Shimano with the same problem, but tearing it down and reassembling with some lube fixed it.

Hopefully someone with a little more mechanical expertise can chime in.

probably the anti reverse pawl.

Could be the anti reverse pawl....Ive read of similar problems on these reels from this. Im sure DVT can assist.

Take off the Anti Reverse Pawl and put the reel back together and see if the noise goes away. If it does, then there's your problem. All you have to do is pinch the blades close together so it sits tighter on the rachet, but not too tight. Like this \ /

The redundant AR is where I'd look first as well. It's a nice feature but not critical if you decide to run without it. As suggested pinching the tabs slightly and packing the gap with some grease usually quiets them down. If the problem persists let me know and I'll see if I help you figure it out.

The Redundant AR dog is were the sound is coming from.

We have had many conversations with anglers that want to run their reels without, because they say it smooths the crank out in it's feel.

Understanding the reason the piece is there is important...........

As you increase drag you increase reverse pressure on the AR bearing pack and sleave, if the AR bearing fails on a high pressure fight, the redundant AR dog keeps the crank from turning in reverse and possibly losing a good fish or even worse breaking fingers.
