Question For All Smallmouth Anglers

Featured Replies

I have a tournament this coming Saturday and have done some practicing over the last 2 weeks. I have found something very strange and was wondering if anyone would have an insight into why the fish may be doing this. Water temps are 60 degrees, deep clear highland resivoir, catching smallies in 90 ft of water. Any idea in the fall why they are that deep?

How were you fishing? 90 foot is deep! The last time I fished that deep my "bird" was telling lies. Lol

drop shot, spoon, tail spinner. i fished dalehollow last weekend and the baitfish were just as deep, im scratching my beard wondering the same...

Well, this was also in NE TN on what most people refer to as Dale hollow junior. South Holston is a fishery all it's own, but does have many similar traits to DH. Ever fish a damiki down there on DH? Takes an 1/8 Oz lead head close to a minute to fall that far.

Sworming Hornet/ LFT Live Magic Shad

Sounds like the OP is catching just fine, just wondering why they are there, and I would say it's because that is where the food is.

Don't forget your fizzing needle.

Has to be where the food is, that's the only reason to be that deep this time of year. They suspend really deep in the winter at Table Rock under the schools of shad. All you had to do is find the schools of shad and that's where the fish are.

Wow, fishing a 1/8 ounce jig head in 90 foot of water is pretty extreme. Thats twice as deep as my deepest caught fish. Report back, I want to hear more. Good luck in the tour.
