What Type Of Fishing Line?

Featured Replies

hey guys!

i was wondering what line you guys would recommend for throwing spinnerbaits, swim baits(no bigger than 1 ounce) and topwater i really only have on rod and i know its not ideal by any means. the rod is a 7 foot MH st croix mojo rod. would mono be a good choice?

thanks

Everybody is different. I recommend 12 lb Suffix Elite. Its a great line.

10-12lb YoZuri Hybrid

X2. If youre throwing topwater, you want a line that floats, so you need either braid or mono. Power Pro is my braid of choice.

A 12# quality mono is just fine imo.

I myself, have a M/F mojo bass and I'm using a Johnny Morris Sig series with 12lb Suffix Elite. It's a great pair.

I use it for everything you mentioned, but what I consider lighter sizes. Just depends on the hook really.

If you're going to have just one rod, thats a great rod to have. Don't worry too much about needing a ton.

I have two rods I mainly use, one is a M mojo and the other is a MH vendetta. I typically use the M unless I'm throwing a big jig or a big spinnerbait or if a smaller bait has a thick hook. The other is a MH carbonlite spooled with braid - it never gets used (not a huge need for it unless I got to a specific lake with a lot of slop).

The only thing you need to watch out for is light wire hooks. When setting the hook with a MH you can straighten the hook out. Just don't set the hook as hard and you'll be good. Light wire hooks are easier to set regardless if theyre sharp.

Yo-Zuri Hybrid #12 has a breaking strength of 19.5 lbs.

Great line at a reasonable price.

This gets my vote!!! I have it on 5 of 6 rods and love it.

Another vote for YoZuri.

Where's a good place to buy YoZuri line? BP has it but when I went to the store they only has clear and #10 was the lightest weight they had in UltraSoft.

6# Spider Wire EZ or Ultimate Mono

I have never used Yo Zuri hybrid. It may be the best line in the world I dont know. The floro I used before was very stiff ,I hated the way it handled and ''impossible'' to tie a nice neat Trlene knot with..I used it once then re-spooled Thats why I still use and recommend mono.

I get mine online at Ebay, big fish sports is the Web store, I pay five or six bucks for 600 yard spools, I can't find it locally

would the yo zuri be good for topwater? some people say it sinks.

  • Super User

I buy 600yd spools from TW.

I use it with my Sammy type lure, works fine. Yes it does sink but not much faster than wet mono.

To those who will argue, mono is open cell meaning it soaks up water, the first few minutes it stays on the surface only slightly better than the yz. Once water logged almost no difference.

One more vote for Yo-Zuri, but I tend to run slightly heavier with my line. I usually won't go less than #15.

15lb Fireline.

10-12lb YoZuri Hybrid

Sorry I quoted so many people but for the price of the Yo-zuri I really want to find out how it compares to other line. I used to have 12lb berkley fluorocarbon spooled on my revo winch and I loved it. Though it really is not practical when you have multiple combos. Right now I am using vanish fluoro on my reels because I had it spooled by a friend for cheap. Who does this line compare to vanish or the 100% fluorocarbon?
