Spinner Bait Rod.

Featured Replies

I use a 6'6" mh/f. I am mostly spot casting and am not open water casting so I don't need a 7' for that. I am mostly throwing 1/4,5/16, or 3/8 and every once in awhile a 1/2.

Just look at the lure ratings - their "M" is usually rated for 1/2 or 5/8 oz. max.

Ya my Veritas MF is rated for 1/4 to 5/8 so I will have to go heavier

I use a 6' 6" MH/F LTB with a 6:4 Lews and 14lb Mustad Thor line. I can toss 1/2oz baits without a problem and it has plenty of backbone to turn a big fish from heavy cover.

I feel the smaller rods like 6'8'' and 6'6'' are great for target fishing with spinnerbaits.

I have an AC62MXF that I generally use for spooks and slash baits, but also makes a perfect sniper style spinner bait rod.

7'2 MH XF. I have thrown them on a 6'8 med fast, mostly pitching them under docks. I lke the mh a little better since we have alot of hydrilla and the extra strength is needed and i can make longer casts too.

Never tried pitching them. That sounds like it would work well in the areas I fish

I use a 7'1" HF action rod with 30lb braid. This particular rod fishes more like a MHMF action rod though. I personally like a bit more parabolic action in my spinnerbait rod.

I have a Veritas 7' heavy fast and it really feels like a MH. That may be my ticket.

I'm in the minority, but I use a 7MHMF, also use it for cranking. The reel is a 21 ipt, this is for anything over 3/8 to an ounce. Smaller I use a 7MMF with a reel that is 25ipt. I don't like fast or extra fast tips I end up pulling the lure out of the fish's mouth

25 doesn't seem to fast? I had used my 7 gear STX and it was way to fast. Wore me out

i don't throw SB that often but i do like my 6'8" MHF st croix rage series.  I have the spinnerbait labeled mojo and it is to long for me at 7'MHF so i use that one for jigs and topwater buzz type frogs now.  I prefer the slightly shorter length.

Just switched out my 7' 0" MH/F Compre rod for spinner's and chatterbait's to the new Phenix 7' 2" M 1 MH/F and love it.

It has a little softer tip and light as heck!!

I'll start off by saying I have the brand already picked out I just have a few questions I need.

I haven't used spinner baits very often. I want to get into running them more as a different option to jigs in the cover I fish. I just don't know what the best action length and weight is. I know a 4 or 5 gear feels better to me.

So question is what's the best length, action and weight for spinnerbaits if I were going to have a dedicated set up.

Thanks

I have two spinnerbait setups they are extra fast action with medium power and are rated for 3/8 oz.-1/2oz baits. One is 6'9" and the other is 6'3" and my first choice is always the 6'3". They also have the same reels on them and the 6'3" just all around performs better.

What makes the smaller rod perform better? Are you throwing them around docks trees etc?

Thanks

Yes I throw it around docks, trees, bogs and into trees etc with a sidearm sorta underhand cast(a lot of wrist action) so the bait kind of slides into the water. Then I will also let it rip with a overhead cast to let sail into open water. My belief is the shorter rod just loads up with a little more flex and allows the bait to go.......I know that a longer rod is supposed to be the ticket for distance but this is not the only contradiction I have in my arsenal.

I use a technique specific 6' 10" MH/XF for spinners and buzzers. It handles weights up to 3/4 oz no problem.

I fish more around docks and cover so I like a 6'10" MH. If you're making long cast on long points you may want a 7'3". The MH action works good for 3/8 to 1/2 ounce baits.
