I haven't really been on the forum in quite a while so I apologize if this topic has been brought up recently. Just kind of curious what everyones thoughts are on UV baits. Are these UV baits the real deal or is it just a gimmick? I've never bought or used any of them. Just curious what you guys think.  

Hello Crankenstein, doesn't look like you are to far away from where I'm at in Battle Creek based on the lakes you have mentioned. Anyway, I've always been intrigued by these baits especially under low light conditions or dark stained waters. That said I haven't tried them yet.

I talked to Steve Daniel who guides on Okeechobee and he was telling me he had two customers on board using the UV plastics. Two used regular baits & one used UV baits. The UV baits caught more fish than the regulars. Based on his experiment they are worth a try.

Found them on sale at BassPro.  Going to give them a shot this season.

I had gotten a hold of some UV Hogs, Tubes, and even some spinners....I haven't had much luck so far. The UV spinnerbait has caught me a few but it didn't totally revolutionize my fishing experience. I'm going to try some different locations and techniques first before I call UV tackle a hoax, because I have seen it work, but not much in my favor haha. They're relatively cheap and fun to experiment with if nothing else. 

Here's my experience with the UV Baits. Fished a tournament with the beaver-type in blue and green colors, flipping with a 3/8 oz weight, owner flipping hook with the screw-in spring. Was the first time I had used the Bait, and hook. Hook was awesome, and saved me a bunch of baits(doesn't tear the baits up as bad, and hooked em everytime), and I got bit, and boated more, by double, than anyone I talked with...Great numbers bait that day, high pressure, and fish were tight to structure. My average fish was much smaller than the competition, and finished forth. I've since fished them a few times, and results have been the same, I just catch smaller fish with them. I don't know if the younger fish just see it better, or what, but I can fish other baits (like the rodent,sweet beaver)and just catch bigger fish. I've just about quit using them, based on those results. Whats crazy is its mostly a reaction strike, so you would think it wouldn't matter, but its just what I've experienced in my water...great numbers bait, though...

Thanks for the info guys. I have thought about giving them a shot several times. I mean they seem to work for Brent Chapman. I was considering getting the UV beaver, but I do so well with "normal" beavers. Kinda one of those things where if it's not broke don't fix it.  

Here is a good post on the subject from a couple of months back. For my money, if I see some in a bargain bin, I might grab a pack or two. I don't have time to mess with the next 'red-hook-chatterbait-flyinglure-helicopter-banjominnow' type hype-bait of the month.

I have had very good luck with Tightlines UV Baits.  If they really work I don't know, but I do know I have had very good luck with them.
