Lews Tp Or The Shimano Chronach

Recommended Posts

Not sure but I have both of these reels on the way and I can't wait to see how they perform.

ON PAPER, the Lews seems to be a better value based on what you're getting, however we'll see if that holds true out on the water.

Once I got a LTP I sold all of my curados and replaced them with TPs.

I do still have a 50E and a Core 50 for lighter baits.

Lews. But if you go chronarch you are still getting a beast.

I have been a shimano guy for a long time.  The last  years or so shimano has made choices that my land up hurting them in the long run. For that reason I am looking very seriously at Lew reels.  I still know that shimano makes a fine product, but that's why we should all love the free enterprise system and the competition that is inherent there in. Many times,if you stumble there is someone waiting in the wings to kick your @ss at take your place.

The Lew'sTP is on a short list for me this Spring.  It will definitely be on one of my rods.

Until you take both of the reels and put them on the rod, you're just hoping.  They both are fine reels, but they have different profiles when mounted on a fishing rod.  You need to go to a store that has both and take your rod with you.  You might find that the Lews sits nicely on the rod but it is unbalanced for your tastes.  Or you might find the Chronarch doesn't feel right when fully seated in your hand.  While input of others is good it ultimately ends up being a popularity contest of those that choose to respond.  If the majority of the individuals who respond say "Chronarch", does that mean you should exclude the Lews?  Absolutely not.  Only you can decide which reel feels the best for a given rod.  Any other information you obtain from a forum is just personal preference.

For example, is there any reason you are excluding the Daiwa Lexa, Abu Garcia Revo S, SX, STX, Pflueger President, Okuma, etc.......see what I mean?  I could easily argue that you should consider a Revo S or a Lexa.

Thanks for the responses! I amdefinitelyy leaning toward theLew'ss!

Check Ebay, and don't be afraid to buy a used one. I got 3 "Refurbished" TPs for $310 off the Bay.

I had a lews tp and now have a curado and chronarch 51. I like the lighter weight of the lews reel and the cf handle, i just think the shimanos feel more quality in my hand.

I like the lews reel alot though and you can get killer deals on ebay, i dont think you can go wrong with either one. Best thing to do is get both of them in your hands and see what feels better to you....

I have the Lews' and have the Cuarado, both perform well, but I do feel like the Lew's has a more cheap plastic feeling to it. Not saying it isn't durable, just something to consider. I could care less about bearing count and Multi-system-breaking, I put the Lews and a Curado on a NRX 893c side-by-side and the Curado casts smoother and is more consistent and easier to dial in IMHO.

Just my 2 cents.

Ill also add, i hate the knobs on the lews tp....

I love the lews Tps and most of lews reels.... but i agree! I hate those ugly flat paddles!! Its realy the only thing i dislike about about them!! Lews calls the knobs "classic" i call them ugly

I am going HawgHandle shortly!!

The paddle handles are what made me look.

I had an original BB1 with the paddle handles.

Liked em' then, like em' now.

Speaking of chronarch's, fedex just dropped this 51e off 30 minutes ago, this reel is sweet...

i really do prefer the lews reels, for me its because shimano changed their lineup alot and messed alot of people up, this years chronarch is the same reel as last years curado which is definitely good..i have smaller hands so the small profile of the lews is awesome. and if you look on ebay look for a guy called bubbysales, i buy all my lews reels from him, they are all brand new so you still get the warranty system and the free boat bag, i own 3 tps and 1 bb-1. and all of his tps are 159.99 which is a killer price and saved me 60 bucks. Mainly because when i find something i love i dont like to change. lews is definitely a good buy. Shimano is still a good company and makes some good stuff. so its all up to you. I'm just suggesting what i know has worked for me

It sounds like I can't go wrong with either one of them!

That just about sizes it up.

But I would have to give the edge to Lews.  Very smooth, great customer service, and a good drag.

That's a fact, you will be happy with either one! I would choose the Lew's and for less than the the Chronarch you can buy the Tournament Pro, known as the TP. I love mine and think it is on par with the Shimano Core, kinda like a pour mans Core!!! I have heard from others who I would trust their word, (rw) who owns the core and tried the TP and stated that the TP did require more work to dial in??? I love mine,

Go put both on a rod and see which feels best to you, as I feel that is where the difference lies between the two! Any less expensive model from Shimano and I would definitely go with Lew's!
