My bc's are 7.1:1, I use them for everything, just change my reeling cadence if needed. Like the rapid retrieve when I want to bring it in fast.

 

Actually, do have a 6.4:1 but hardly ever use it.

Sell it and buy another 6.4:1. Haha.

Seriously, a faster reel can be great for jigs or plastics where the fish can take the bait and then swim towards you. You need to take up line fast to set the hook before the fish spits the bait. Also topwater frogs for the same reason. Or, any lures where you work them with the rod more than the reels, like jerkbaits. Some people can just slow their retrieve speed if they need a slower speed. I do this with spinnerbaits on a 7.1 reel, but I can't do it well enough for slow rolling them, or a crankbait for deep diving. For that I need slower reels.

Id use it to try to catch fish.

In all seriousness I use lower geared reels for cranks, maybe even thumping a spinner slow. I use a 7:1 for mostly everything else t rigs topwater other contact baits that may at times require to reel slack up quickly to set a hook, etc. Find out how many ipt your 7:1 is good for and compare it with your 6:4. The difference might not be that big.

Jigs, Trigs gets them in and out faster to cover more area. Burning spinners and buzz baits. My 7:1 is primarily my jig reel.

I would use the 7.1:1 for burning spinnerbaits or topwaters. I have all  6.4:1s as well, except for a 5.4:1 Revo Winch. I use that for Deep cranking.

Yeah, definitely compare the two reels for IPT. I noticed the BPS Pro Qualifier 7.1 has 29 IPT while the BPS Extreme 6.4 (older) is 28 IPT. Not enough difference to make a real difference.

For me it's everything but cranking and spinner baits. I only have two reels in 6 gear because Abu doesn't make the S in a 7 gear.

You can use a 7.1:1 reel for everything.  Personally I use it for everything other than deep cranking.  Jerkbaits, Topwater, T-rig, C-rig, Frog, Squarebills.  THe way I look at it is I can always slow down, but I can only reel so fast.

Throw it in the lake... using it frequently will give you ADHD.

Send it to me.  I'll try it for different applications and send you a five page report when I return it at the end of the season. If you get it back (you never know about USPS), you'll have more research done on that reel than reading a hundred post from other anglers. 

I recently bought a 6.4:1 for cranks and spinners only, i don't notice that much difference between them.  my other 4 setups have 7:1s.  one is a hollow body frog setup, a weightless plastic setup(fluke, senko), weighted plastics, and one for everything else, haha.
