If You Could Choose Any Possible Color Pattern For These Two Lures.......

Featured Replies

I hope it is ok to post this in this area.

If you had a Megabass XJ 100, and could paint it with any pattern or color scheme, what would it be?

If you had a Megabass Popmax and could paint it with any pattern or color shceme, what would it be?

I decided to break the winter depression, I would break out the old airbrush and paint some lures.  But I am infamous for painting everything shad variants.  What would you do?

I would not even consider painting over an Ito creation. I consider it fine art, much like a Thomas Kincade.

Thomas Kinkade fine art. LMAO that is a good one.

But I do agree with RW, I couldn't think of altering either. Their finishes are just too sweet and the craftsmans ship is outstanding.

But the 110 seems lacking a bluegill/sunfish pattern in their lineup.

That is cause you have never seen my work, lol.

In reality I am fine art artist and have done things professionally off and on through-out the years.  So I am confident I can take on the task and feel comfortable that the results will be respectful.

Besides, both are prepped and ready to paint.

It was no disrespect to you as an artist.

I couldn't think of anything really for the popmax, maybe something like the purple tiger color bandit makes, theirs is kinda cheesey. If you could fade the purple to to white with a pink belly do some honeycomb pattern ontop atleast an idea.

but like I said, bluegill, sunfish, perch in a 110,see if something those colors on that chasis produce since it is not a current option.

No, I knew you meant nothing.  Just me being a smart alec.  But I am looking forward to painting it.  Just need the inspiration.

Not a problem, I will post pictures once I have it completed.

I would do a nice Pumpkinseed.

and/or Crappie. Caught a bunch the other day that had amazing violet and blue hues on their backs.

I think they would be challenging and show off your artistic abilities. Plus they are good fish catching colors you dont see too often.

Shad are not located in NY, why paint your lures a color of bait fish the bass are not eating? Baby bass are everywhere so do your best to create a baby bass lure, both smallmouth and largemouth. Alewife and white perch also come to mind. Slender body lures don't make good sunfish or bluegill replicas.

To answer the OP, I'd either want jet black, or bone white.

You are right; I will give you the Hickory shad, the herrings are a stretch. We have American shad that are similar to Hickory in some rivers and they are big enough to be considered sport fish by fly fisherman, too big to be bass bait and not found in lakes. You have the Great Lakes and Altlantic ocean and I did think of Alewifes!

Shad to me are Threadfin, bass size prey fish, Gizzard shad are bass prey when juvenile size.

I once asked my old tourny partner ( who fished the classic on four occasions) what color he would pick for any bait in any lake.

he said " black followed by white"
