So Sad

Featured Replies

From what I read this morning it's so sad that Washington State fish and game has taken limits and size off the smallmouth in areas of the Columbia River to protect slime rockets. Believe this is going to happen pretty quick if I read it right. So nice to have been blessed with moving out east where all fisheries are respected even the trout!!

What is a slime rocket if I might ask?

In betting trout, salmon

any relation to a snot rocket? I know what that is.

Around here we call stocker trout slimers. At least they only lifted the limits on parts of the Columbia. The fish and game guys in my state decided that northern pike were bad so they lifted all bag, possession, and size limits statewide. They also added them to the list of species you are allowed to bow fish for.

Doncha just hate stupidity? I'd never move to a state where such idiotic fishing laws exist. I had a serious conversation with my wife the other day about moving to find work and I said I would not go anywhere that wasn't like KY in its fishing laws. Here we can have as many rods as we want with lines in the water at once, there are very few regulations on treble hooked baits or multi lure baits, and none local to me, the fish species all seem to be respected and they know what a trash fish is, and it ain't a bass. I'm serious, I don't care how good any job offer is, I won't go if there's some stupid rule about river bottoms being owned by whoever owns the bordering property, or no baits with trebles, or worst of all, CLOSED fishing seasons! We can fish year round for everything that swims here. I just work to live and I live to fish, so you know what's at the top of my list, and what's on the bottom. KY just successfully voted in November to make it a state constitutional right to hunt and fish forever, not just a privilege. It cannot be taken away unless by vote again, which will never happen now, we're all rednecks.

Slime rockets is even new to me. I call them bass bars ;)

Peace,

Fish

Ha!  Slime rockets...I love it!  As for the law, sounds stupid to me.  Good thing you got out of that state when you did.

Yup...slime rockets be steelhead and trout. Well not lil trout planters they kinda just kinda wiggle in place. Have caught hundreds if not more when lived out there in Oregon but when I was a manager in a couple fishing stores in Portland I just loved defending the warm water fish. Did get under a few skins I'm sure but this is life. They do have a cold water mentality out there for sure. One of my biggest smiles when I moved out here was to see trout for bait in some small bait shops.

Even though there's a ton more people out here....they seem more friendly and everyone seems to respect what everyone fish's for. Must be that SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY......HUH.

I also complimented our TWRA for what they've done with Norris.....Oregon management usually never got many nice letters about bass.

Thank you all and tight lines

Trout fishing in the backcountry of the Smoky is a lot of fun.

It's funny, my father in law wants me to pick up trout fishing, I told him I'm not a fairy wand kind of guy!!

I used to enjoy chasing them with a fly rod. Then got into the salmon and steelhead on a fly. But then all the different purest groups started trashin the warmwater fish in different ways and now its gotten to this so I'm glad I don't represent that out there anymore.
