I have some small ponds I fish and a lot of them have lots of algae coating the bottom. I know I can catch them on crank baits but it is so shallow every cast i get algae. Give me some new baits to try.

Soft plastics. t-rigged..wacky...jika...weightless..drop shot..  You could throw a spinner bait, wake bait, buzzbait, poppers... Lots and lots of options.

IMHO you are not going to avoid the algae per-se.  You just need to work with it and know that you may need to pick out some stuff from time to time.  With the algae in my ponds I stick strictly to TRigged stuff generally.   Senkos, Flukes, Weighted swimbaits, beavers etc.  I avoid anything with treble hooks.

A shallow suspending jerkbait might be worth a try.

Top water....pop-r, stanley ribbit, buzzbait, etc.

First of all are you talking about that slimy, bottom hugging, non rooted filamentous algae, or are you calling an actual plant that grows on the lake bottom, like milfoil, hydrilla, ell grass, coon tail, etc.......algae? Knowing what your calling "algae" can help us help you.
