Favorite Square Bill Crankbait

Featured Replies

KVD 1.0 1.5 AND 2.5 HAVE BEEN DOING IT FOR ME. CAUGHT THE BASS ON MY PICTURE ON A 1.5 CHARTREUSE SEXY SHAD.  WHAT DO YALL THROW AND WHY?

My favorite changes just about every time I fish them. The one that the bass like the best that day is the one that I like the best. I use 4 different brands and like them all for different situations.

Btw...this thread sould be in the "Tackle" section.

Lately it's been the Strike King Series 4 in Rootbeer. The Sexy Blue Back Herring color works really well too.

I've been painting my own lately, and they've been working out pretty well for me...but I have to say my most productive squarebill is one thats been in my tacklebox for years, the Rapala Flat Rap 1'-3' Yellow Perch. I cant find them in any stores around here lately, so I'm really careful when I use it, and if it gets hung up, best believe I'm gettin it back. Just last summer I was bumping it off some submerged timber when the bill got pinched in the roots of a tree. It was clear water so I tied my boat off to the tree, and dove down 12 feet to get it back LOL!! I love that lure

bomber square a, bandit flat max, kvd 1.5/2.5 covers most of my needs.

I don't really have a favorite but I fish a ton of squarebills. KVD's 1.0 and 1.5, RC LC 0.5, 1.5, 2.0, RC LS series 2 and 3, Spro little an fat john, Bandit 100, H20, LC BDS 0, 1, and 2. I'm sure I'm missing some but those are some of my favorites.

I still fall back on my old favorites. The 3/8 -5/8 oz. Cotton Cordell Big O, in various colors depending on water clarity. A newer one I'm building a lot of confidence in is 6th Sense squarebills.

SK KVD 1.0, 1.5, 2.5 most of the time.

SK 4s, and series 1 when I want one with rattles

Spro little John when I want a tight wiggle/flat sided bait.

I have a few SK and i like the wider profile but lately i have been throwing the Rapala crankin' rap and clackin' crank and i really like those baits too and have been pretty succesfull with them this early season.

I do want to try some of the others but to me if the current ones are working then why change until i lose a few.

The Excalibur squarebills are great and you can get many of them on sale now that Edwin Evers is with Megabass....Rapala has the DT thugs which are balsa and work great in brush...

I like the KVD series, but I also like the Luck E Strike Rick Clunn RC2 series. They are proven fish catchers.

Bomber Square A.  Caught most of my biggest fish on it minus one, which I caught on a Sexy Chartreuse Shad KVD 1.5

BOMBER SQUARE A. Best by far i have caught probably 40+ bass off this thing

Favorite? Bagleys far and away.

What do I fish the most? Lucky Craft Fat CB and RTO, probably.

That said, they're tools and no two manufacturers squarebills are the same. They all have their own attributes and qualities that work for different situations. In general, Bagleys, SPRO, Lucky Craft, KVD, and Excalibur are the squarebills I rely on the most.

6th Sense Crush 50X Squarebill. the bluegill pattern is amazing. im not sure whats up with them, they were introduced at ICAST in 2012, but it seems they no longer make them anymore? anyone know whats up with that? i love these squarebills and want a few more!

I don't really have a favorite.  I have some that I have a little more confidence in than others.

Lucky Craft Rick Clunn, and now the RTO series. Same great baits, different names. I have yet to find a bait that can touch them.

PM sent  :wink2:

Sixth sense Crush series.  They just seem to be put together using better components than their competitors.  I dont have to worry about immediately switching out the hooks or split rings.

I've had no issues with the stock hooks or rings on the LC's, or XCaliburs XCS100's and XCS Real Craws.

Aren't the LC squarebills like twice the price though?  I like the looks of those xcaliburs though!  Pretty sweet colors.  Probably order a few.

Speed Traps especially in cold water.
