Decent Spinning Reel Suggestions

Featured Replies

I am looking to get a new spinning reel for my new 6'9" ML vendetta rod. I am going to use it for senkos, smaller shakey heads, grubs, and road runners and stuff like that. Any suggestions of reels? I am not looking to break the bank. I have always thought the Abu Cardinals looked like a good reel for the price. My cousin has one and it seems to be pretty decent. Any suggestions?

I'll say the pflueger president before someone else does. Its 60 or less and a great reel.

Well, as an owner of two Shimano Stradics, I will recommend the ... Daiwa Lexa 2000SH. Not trying to sound like a Daiwa schill, but dang, this is easily as smooth as my stradics, if not moreso. I'm super impressed. Over ebay you can find it for $100-110.... .02 Lots of great reels out there. I'm just really impressed with Diawa's entire Lexa line.

Shimano Sahara is also a nice reel for a good price.

Honestly I don't think you can get a bad reel in the 60-100 range from pretty much any major manufacturer.

I'll offer my two cents and recommend BPS PQ-10.

I'll say the pflueger president before someone else does. Its 60 or less and a great reel.

If money is a concern then the President is the way to go.

I will throw in a suggestion for the Shimano Symetre. I have 3, and have been very happy with them.

On a ml rod I would be looking for a reel that is comfortable and appeals to your eye.  Any reel in the 40-$60 range is going to work just fine, if I were on a budget I wouldn't be afraid of a cardinal or trion.

I had a shimano sedona that I really liked, and got it for $29. I gave it to my father because he was having trouble with his reel and am now looking for one myself. Gander has the sahara on sale for $59 with free shipping i believe.

Shameless plug...

I just found a Daiwa Tierra 2500 in my pile o' tackle last night that's just not getting used. Great reel with both spools and one still had 20lb Sufix braid on it.

PM me if you're interested and we can work something out

I would go with a Pflueger or a Daiwa IMO. Either brand for around $100 bucks you will get a super great reel. If you want it under a $100 then Pflueger gives you the Purist around $80 or as others mentioned the President around $60 and a Trion for $30-40.

Which ever brand you pick be sure to look at the 2500 size.

I would go with a Daiwa.  An Aird 2500 would be a good choice.  $90 or so and very smooth.  I have 2 and they have served me very well for the past 2 years.

Another option for a little less money would be a BPS Pro Qualifier 20/20H.  My dad and I have several for 3-4 years and never had a problem with a single one.

If money is a concern the the President is the way to go.

I agree! The pflueger president is a really nice reel in the $60 range.

I just got a new symetre and so far I like it and have no complaints.  I took a close look at the pflueger purist as well and probably would have been just as happy with that one.  I had a president once but the bail kept closing on the cast and causing my lures to go sailing away so I have avoided them since but everyone seems to say they are the best deal in a budget reel.

PM Chris at Tech. I have that same reel (as well as Saharas, Sedonas, sonoras). The Tierra is a better reel.

If money is a concern the the President is the way to go.

x2

If money is tight, sahara or president, if you have a higher budget get the stradic fj.
