Can you offer some tips on fishing a lipless crankbait above the weeds?

Often, I end up in the weeds which doesn't work so well.

The only way to keep a lipless crank above the weeds is to burn it.

But Daiwa makes a suspending lipless crank wich works great above weeds!

You need to vary the speed at which you retrieve.  The most important thing though is how high you hold the rod tip.  Also try removing the entire rear split ring and treble hook and replacing the front hook with a # 6.  If a fish happens to strike and you do not hook up, just stop reeling and drop the rod tip.   This works all the time.

It can be very productive to allow your lipless crankbait to tick the grass or weeds, and then rip it after you feel it touching the vegetation.  Your rod needs to be sensitive enough to feel the vegetation before you are so deep into it that you pull up a wad of weeds.  

Holding your rod tip high would be the main thing. You'll need to experiment with speed and rod position to get it right. Also, if you have a rig with heavier line, you may try that. The larger diameter line will not let the bait run as deep. It will also help when ripping the bait free of the weeds. You can get a few reaction strikes just after the rip.

Which bait you use has nothing to do with the technique; rod position and reel speed is the key. At the start of the cast the rod tip is high & speed is fast; the closer to the boat the lower the rod tip & slower the speed.  

You need either a fast retrieve reel, or a smaller lipless bait.  If the weeds are around 4 to 5 feet below the surface then I'll use a 1/2 ounce size rat-l-trap.  If the weeds are just under the surface to about 1 foot deep I'll switch over to a fast reel with a quarter ounce  rat-l-trap.  

I forgot to mention to hold your rod tip up high and start cranking as soon as the bait hits the water.
