Camping Out On A Hole To Wait For The Fish To Turn On

Featured Replies

Do you all fish any lakes where certain holes are more or less "going to make the tournament"? My local lake its almost with certainty that if you fish in certain holes you will be in the top three.

Problem is, these holes dont turn on at the same time every day and when they do turn on they might fish for a half an hour and then its over. This lake only has a select few of these holes that ALWAYS hold fish. The same guys week after week camp right on them making it so you never have a chance to figure out that pattern let alone even try to fish it.

Ive never seen another lake like this and it has my beating my head. I was marking hundreds of bass on one yesterday, i fished it for four hours before I had enough and left. Fifteen mins after I left the buddy I was sharing the hole with said they turned on. He had only been there a half hour when I was there four so he happened to hit the bite at just the right time.

Very common on Pickwick!  Camp on one spot all day on tourney day!

Jeff is it always the same spots, like you can say with certainty that spot a is going to have boat b sitting on it every time they fish the tournament. Some of these guys are so predictable its insane.

On one hand I cant blame them but to wait for a fifteen minute bite all day long. I thought we were fishing not hunting whitetails.

We are always looking for something new, but our old spots hold fish regularly.

They might not be there or in the mood when we hit the spot, but they will be

there sometime during the day.

same here... while we may try a couple new spots every time we go to the lake, we normally fish the same spots... we have about 5 spots that normally produce at least 2 or 3 good fish, so we just rotate between them, trying the occasional new spot now and then, but normally going to the same spots that always hold fish... sometimes we get lucky and manage to get several fish from the same spot, and on very rare occasions we dont get a single one... but most of the times we get at least a couple decent fish...

There are probably more examples, but I recall KVD winning a Classic sitting on a spot and

more recently Davy Hite at Pickwick: http://blogs.tcpalm.com/ed_killer/2011/04/team-evinrudes-davy-hite-wins-bassmaster-elite-on-pickwick-denny-brauer-third.html

I know it happens, because I see it happen weekly. Maybe I just dont have it in me to wait them out for that long. If those fish dont turn on in two hours and I dont think to myself... theyre gonna turn on at x hour then I am gone.

Some lakes are "spot" lakes, it's hard to imagine your lake only has 3 spots that hold active bass. It is very common for LMB to become active feeders in 4 hour cycles with a short 20-30 minute activity period.

There is a reason those bass are feeding on that spot, your task is to locate an unknown spot of your own.

Look at your lake map very closely, there are more "spots" to discover!

I don't fish tournaments.  The last couple of weeks been catching 10-20# fish most days at one spot, not that it isn't fun but sometimes a challenge is in order.  Fished about 200 yds away from that spot, as well as other locations 10 miles a way and haven't had strike in 3 days.  Am I bothered, not in the least bit, my day will come again.

The res we fish on has certain areas that are what we now refer to as community holes, everyone knows about them and they do produce numbers as well as size. Guys will run directly to these in tx's and stay all day hoping to catch a big bag. This does not always work. I'll check in with some of them and find that normally we can fish 10 spots to the one they are on and usually have better results! Look for similarities and find your own "regular" spot!!
