Ml/f Rod Ideal Uses

Featured Replies

What presentations/techniques are best suited for this power rod? Just picked up one to use for drop shot, senkos and possibly shakeyheads. Would this power rod be suitable for these presentations? What other presentations would be ideal for this rod? Also, what lb test and type of line would you prefer for this set up?By the way it is a 7' 3" ethos spinning rod. Thanks for any advice and suggestions guys!

a ML to me is drop shot dream rod. light tip to really make that bait dance, yet just enough backbone to play the fish out of cover

Drop shot, wacky jig, mojo/split shots, tiny grubs, 4" senkos, flukes, sluggos, tiny poppers like the Zell Pop.

Lol my all purpose, main spinning outfit is 7' ml/f 2 piece crucial and a 2500 stradic. I do throw a lot of small baits though.

I have a Dobyns 702sf which is a ML rod. I use it primarily for dropshots or fishing the mississippi river (smallmouth and walleye) with 1/8-3/16 ounce dartheads/jig heads from shore. This rod could get away with light shakyhead and wacky techniques too.

I have an Avid AVS66MLF/ Stella 1000FA that I only use for crappie, white bass and stocker trout.

I don't think a ML rod is appropriate for bass fishing unless you target dinks. I use to fish mine with

smaller soft plastics until I hooked up with some decent bass. Man, ML sucks when you have something

special on the end of the line!

I've caught my Pb largemouth and peacock on light tackle from shore. Different strokes.....

However, I wouldn't be casting my tiny baits into slop or thick brush.

Thank you for the responses guys. I have a medium power spinning setup that I will use if fishing these techniques around any cover. So would 6lb test be about right for this rod?

It is a fun rod for your intentions but you have to platy em. I like MXF but, when you use a MLXF you wana be in open water, it is not for pulling fish out, once the hit the weeds your done, unless it's a real skippie!!! enjoy have fun!!!

Fine for open water, pulling a decent fish out of heavy cover isn't the best use for it.  Real nice set up for open water smaller peackocks, but a bit iffy for those larger woodknockers.
